{"id":5952,"date":"2011-09-27T00:01:16","date_gmt":"2011-09-27T07:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5952"},"modified":"2011-09-27T00:01:16","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T07:01:16","slug":"the-rest-of-the-solyndra-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/27\/the-rest-of-the-solyndra-story\/","title":{"rendered":"The rest of the Solyndra story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Republicans have been making a huge dog and pony show out of the failure of green energy startup, Solyndra.&#160; It goes without saying that they are trying to hang the failure around Barack Obama\u2019s neck, and oppose green energy (except when they take credit for federal money spent on it in their districts).&#160; However, Republicans don\u2019t want you to know just how deeply Republicans were involved in that company.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"27Solyndra\" border=\"0\" alt=\"27Solyndra\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/27Solyndra.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"242\" \/>Republicans have been celebrating the bankruptcy of taxpayer-funded solar energy company Solyndra as a scandal that will taint the Obama administration and its \u201cgreen jobs\u201d push. <strong>But it\u2019s not just Democrats who are entangled in this one<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Solyndra\u2019s director of government relations since October 2010 was Victoria Sanville. According to her Linked In profile, <strong>she had spent the previous seven years working as a congressional staffer for three Republican congressmen, John Sweeney, Peter Roskam, and Michael Graves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Another Washington-based Solyndra government-relations professional was Joseph Pasetti; his Capitol Hill experience came as <strong>an aide in the office of Alfonse D\u2019Amato, a Republican senator from New York<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Solyndra\u2019s registered outside lobbyists at the Glover Park Group included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gloverparkgroup.com\/our-team\/alex-mistri\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Mistri<\/a>, who <strong>worked from 2005 to 2008 as special assistant to President George W. Bush, a Republican. Before that, he was chief of staff to congressman Bill Shuster, a Republican<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 and 2011, according to Senate lobbying records, Solyndra spent $130,000 on lobbyists at the Washington Tax Group LLC. Solyndra\u2019s lobbyists there included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontaxgroup.com\/greg.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Nickerson<\/a>, <strong>a former aide to Republican congressmen Bill Thomas and Jim McCrery<\/strong>. Mr. Nickerson \u201c<strong>served on the Delegate and Caucus Team at the 2004 Republican National Convention<\/strong> in New York and <strong>worked as an attorney advisor to the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2004 and 2006 elections<\/strong>,\u201d according to his biography on his lobbying firm web site. Also on the Solyndra account at Washington Tax Group LLC was Jan Fowler, <strong>whose Capitol Hill experience came as an aide to another Republican, Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>One of Solyndra\u2019s lawyers or restructuring advisers is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2011-09-26\/solyndra-meltdown-may-hit-goldman-s-reputation-william-d-cohan.html\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a> William Weld, <strong>the former governor of Massachusetts, a Republican<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget that the $535 million federal loan guarantee Solyndra was eventually granted by President Obama\u2019s energy department was made under the authority not only of the Obama stimulus bill but also <strong>a program established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, signed into law by President George W. Bush, a Republican<\/strong>.
