{"id":5796,"date":"2011-09-06T01:06:07","date_gmt":"2011-09-06T08:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5796"},"modified":"2011-09-06T01:06:07","modified_gmt":"2011-09-06T08:06:07","slug":"our-dirty-laundry-left-for-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/06\/our-dirty-laundry-left-for-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Dirty Laundry Left for Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">One great failure if the Democratic Party has been their unwillingness to hold Republican leaders responsible for torture.&#160; I understand their desire to move forward to meet American\u2019s needs, rather than become involved in an all consuming fight over this, but that is no excuse.&#160; Our Constitution makes ratified treaties US law, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Nations_Convention_Against_Torture\" target=\"_blank\">UN Convention Against Torture<\/a> requires us to investigate and prosecute torture.&#160; Instead, we have left our dirty laundry for Europe.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"6Bush_Cheney_torture\" border=\"0\" alt=\"6Bush_Cheney_torture\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/6Bush_Cheney_torture.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"222\" \/>The Council of Europe&#8217;s human rights commissioner has urged Lithuania, Poland and Romania to investigate their governments&#8217; alleged roles in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency&#8217;s secret \u201crendition\u201d program of detaining, transporting and interrogating terrorism suspects in foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg says the CIA set up \u201cblack sites\u201d in overseas locations, including some in Europe, as part of its secret counter-terrorism operations where detainees were allegedly tortured.
