Mike Pence (R-IN), chairman of the House Republican Conference, appeared on Fox &amp; Friends this morning to play down<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/01\/29\/obama-ribbon-cutting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Obama\u2019s strong defense<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">of his administration\u2019s policies at Friday\u2019s House GOP retreat in Baltimore. Trying to refute the claim that Republicans have become a \u201cparty of no,\u201d Pence replied:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><font color=\"#000000\">PENCE: Well, look, in the last year, you know, frankly Steve, there were a number of bills that we did support the administration on, most especially regarding our troops and regarding our veterans. <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">We kept our word. On Oct. 8, Pence<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2009\/roll770.xml\" target=\"_blank\">joined House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH)<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">and 129 other Republicans in the House in voting against the 2010 Department of Defense Authorization bill. Pence and Boehner opposed the bill because the measure included \u201c<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/glennthrush\/1009\/Boehner_Pence_voting_against_defense_bill_.html\" target=\"_blank\">hate crimes provisions designed to protect gays and lesbians<\/a><font color=\"#000000\">.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><font color=\"#000000\">Republicans in the Senate followed Pence and Boehner\u2019s obstructionist lead in December, filibustering the 2010 Department of Defense Appropriations Act as a way of delaying the Senate health care vote&#8230; [<em>emphasis original<\/em>]<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/02\/01\/pence-defense-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think Progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Why don\u2019t these liars just come out and and admit that their hate for LGBT people is more important to them than providing for their troops?&#160; Have I become a defense hawk?&#160; Hardly!&#160; But as much as I hate and oppose war, even I know that we must provide the very best for our troops in harm\u2019s way.&#160; The irony here is that the warmongers don\u2019t see it that way.&#160;
