{"id":5683,"date":"2011-08-24T00:07:25","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T07:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5683"},"modified":"2011-08-24T02:23:05","modified_gmt":"2011-08-24T09:23:05","slug":"was-god-after-cantor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/08\/24\/was-god-after-cantor\/","title":{"rendered":"Was God After Cantor?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">All kidding aside, I have no intention to suggest that the epicenter of yesterday\u2019s quake in Cantor\u2019s district, after he took the lead in pushing Republican plans to defund federal disaster relief, was an act of divine vengeance.\u00a0 Nevertheless, the happenstance is most entertaining.\u00a0 It reminds me of the time when Pat Robertson prophesied that God would smite Disney World with a hurricane, because they had ended hiring discrimination against LGBT people.\u00a0 The next hurricane to make landfall in the US damaged Robertson\u2019s Virginia Beach headquarters.\u00a0 Well, if it was God, you have to credit her with a sense of humor.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"24CantorHat\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/24CantorHat.jpg\" alt=\"24CantorHat\" width=\"360\" height=\"438\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/>Back in March, after the Japanese earthquake, Eric Cantor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/political-buzz-in-richmond\/eric-cantor-defends-cuts-that-affect-your-safety\" target=\"_blank\">defended<\/a> Republican plans to cut funding from the USGS and warning systems to help in case of a disaster. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.75in;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">What if we where to experience a disaster like Japan? How prepared are we in our country? Yesterday house republican leader <strong>Eric Cantor defended republican proposals to cut spending<\/strong> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">United States Geological Survey<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nws.noaa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Weather Service<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">NOAA<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.75in;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Government officials predict the closure of as many as 12 NOAA offices \u2013 which provide warning services for 30 million Americans.
