{"id":5593,"date":"2011-08-12T00:17:46","date_gmt":"2011-08-12T07:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5593"},"modified":"2011-08-12T00:17:46","modified_gmt":"2011-08-12T07:17:46","slug":"exxon-appeals-to-scrotus-jr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/08\/12\/exxon-appeals-to-scrotus-jr\/","title":{"rendered":"Exxon Appeals to SCROTUS, Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">There are only four Justices on SCOTUS: Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan.&#160; They are frequently outvoted by the five Injustices on SCROTUS: Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas and Kennedy.&#160; Sadly, the Supreme Court is not the only federal court that is overloaded with Republican ideologues for whom corporate greed trumps the US Constitution and the the rule of law.&#160; This may well prevent justice for the victims of corporate sponsored terrorism and murder.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12exxon\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12exxon\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/12exxon.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"249\" \/>Last month, a divided panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit reinstated a lawsuit alleging that that members of the Indonesian military hired by Exxon to guard one of its natural gas facilities committed <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/justice\/2011\/07\/13\/267382\/exxon-torture\/\" target=\"_blank\">numerous atrocities under Exxon\u2019s employ<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In addition to <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>extrajudicial killings of some of the plaintiffs-appellants\u2019 husbands<\/strong><\/span> as part of a \u201csystematic campaign of extermination of the people of Aceh by [d]efendants\u2019 [Indonesian] security forces,\u201d the plaintiffs-appellants were \u201c<span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>beaten, burned, shocked with cattle prods, kicked and subjected to other forms of brutality and cruelty\u201d amounting to torture<\/strong><\/span>, as well as forcibly removed and detained for lengthy periods of time\u2026<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&#8230;The D.C. Circuit is one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Court_of_Appeals_for_the_District_of_Columbia_Circuit\" target=\"_blank\">most conservative courts in the nation<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>, and it includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aolnews.com\/2010\/05\/26\/opinion-rand-pauls-in-sheeps-clothing\/\" target=\"_blank\">several of America\u2019s most ideological judges<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>. Judge Janice Rogers Brown once compared liberalism to \u201cslavery\u201d and Social Security to a \u201csocialist revolution.\u201d Judge Douglas Ginsburg is an <a href=\"http:\/\/prospect.org\/cs\/articles?article=rally_round_the_true_constitution\" target=\"_blank\">avowed tenther<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> who is most famous for suggesting that the Depression Era vision of the Constitution that struck down everything from the minimum wage to child labor laws is a \u201cConstitution in exile\u201d that should be revived.
