Greg Sargent <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/theplumline.whorunsgov.com\/health-care\/clyburn-house-dems-will-pass-senate-bill-if-fix-is-guaranteed-urges-obama-to-push-dems-harder\/\" target=\"_blank\">talks to Dem House whip James Clyburn<\/a><span style=\"color: black\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: georgia; color: black; font-size: 9.75pt\">&quot;I feel certain that the <strong>House Democrats will pass health care reform if the fixes that we feel need to be made to the Senate bill are guaranteed<\/strong>,&quot; Clyburn said. Asked directly if the House votes would be there if this happened, Clyburn said: &quot;Yes, sir.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: georgia; color: black; font-size: 9.75pt\">Clyburn\u2019s comments suggest that if Dem leaders figure out a way of demonstrating to House Democrats that the reconciliation fix is iron-clad, they could support the Senate bill in large enough numbers to pass.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: georgia; color: black; font-size: 9.75pt\">Clyburn cautioned, however, that House Dems would have to be convinced of the veracity of the fix, citing the &quot;natural distrust between the two bodies.&quot; He added that House Dems would want to see the fix address their opposition to the &quot;Cadillac&quot; tax, to state-based exchanges, and to various sweetheart deals for Senators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: georgia; color: black; font-size: 9.75pt\">Clyburn called on the President to use his clout and prestige to urge Congressional Dems to follow this course of action during tomorrow\u2019s speech. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: georgia; font-size: 9.75pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Meanwhile, the Senate Dems <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/livepulse\/0110\/Senate_Dems_dont_talk_reform_at_weekly_luncheon.html\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a><span style=\"color: black\"> didn&#8217;t talk about reform at their weekly luncheon today\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/rss\/breaking_news\/105721\/clyburn:_house_will_pass_the_senate_bill_if_a_fix_is_guaranteed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alternet<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democrats didn\u2019t even talk about it?&#160; The Nevada Leg Hound, Harry Reid, needs to pull his head out of his nether parts and get cracking!&#160; Perhaps he should change his name to Ulysses so we can call him Useless for short!!<\/p>\n<p>Of course the DINOs are whining:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s217.photobucket.com\/albums\/cc83\/TomCat1948or2\/Blog%202010\/J-M\/TheLatestonHealthCare1272010_1838\/Dino.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"Dino\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Dino\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/s217.photobucket.com\/albums\/cc83\/TomCat1948or2\/Blog%202010\/J-M\/TheLatestonHealthCare1272010_1838\/Dino_thumb.jpg\" width=\"212\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a> Two Democratic senators, Evan Bayh of Indiana and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, have declared that they won&#8217;t support a plan to have the House pass the Senate health care bill whole, then pass fixes to the bill through the reconciliation process. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">A third, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, suggested lawmakers give up on the comprehensive health care bill entirely and pass reforms one by one. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">&quot;We need to focus on things where we have a consensus,&quot;<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/livepulse\/0110\/Nelson_Bayh_warn_against_reconciliation.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bayh said<\/a><font color=\"#000000\">.&quot;Just ramming through a bill on a purely party-line vote on a strictly partisan basis will not do much to generate the kind of progress around here on other issues that we need.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Bayh also said<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/78073-bayh-unlikely-to-support-reconciliation-to-pass-healthcare\" target=\"_blank\">he doesn&#8217;t understand why<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">the Senate dropped the version of the bill passed by the Finance Committee with one Republican vote. &quot;Maybe we should take another look at that,&quot; he said. &quot;<strong>If Sen. Snowe was willing to vote for it, perhaps there were other Republicans who were willing to<\/strong>.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Under reconciliation, legislation could pass with 50 votes (plus Vice President Biden as a tie-breaker), with no chance of a filibuster.
