\"lieberman-traitorjoes\"<\/a> During the 2008 presidential campaign, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT)<\/font> supported<\/a> Republican John McCain and<\/font> attacked<\/a> then-candidate Obama while speaking at the Republican National Committee. Though he currently caucuses with Democrats in the Senate, Lieberman has repeatedly stated that he views running for re-election in 2012 as an option.<\/font><\/p>\n

In an interview on Connecticut\u2019s<\/font> Face The State<\/a> program this weekend, Lieberman once again said that it was \u201cpossible\u201d he could run for re-election as a Republican. Noting that \u201cit would be harder, to be honest, to get the nomination in the Democratic party,\u201d Lieberman said that while he is \u201cmost likely\u201d to remain an independent, he could see himself as a Republican:<\/font><\/p>\n

HOST: Could you see yourself being a Republican or is that\u2026<\/font><\/p>\n

LIEBERMAN: It\u2019s possible.<\/font><\/p>\n

LIEBERMAN: Yeah, yeah. No, it\u2019s possible. A good old-fashioned New England moderate Republican.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Lieberman has also suggested that he would \u201csupport some Republican candidates for Congress or Senate in the elections in 2010.\u201d In a separate part of the interview, Lieberman suggested that he was<\/font> open to endorsing Republican Linda McMahon<\/a> in a Senate race against Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal if she wins her primary with former Rep. Rob Simmons (R-CT).<\/font><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear, however, how helpful Lieberman\u2019s support would be for any candidate in the Senate race. A recent Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey found that Lieberman had \u201c<\/font>a 25 percent approval rating<\/a> with 67 percent of his constituents giving him bad marks.\u201d To demonstrate how disliked Lieberman is by CT Democrats, PPP notes that \u201cBarack Obama\u2019s approval rating with Connecticut Republicans is higher than Lieberman\u2019s with the state\u2019s Democrats.\u201d\u2026<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
