Lahaina\u2019s beloved giant banyan tree (badly scorched, but hopeful survivor of Maui\u2019s deadly wildfires) is showing new signs of recovery by\u00a0sprouting a batch of fresh green leaves.<\/p>\n

A colossal, beloved 150-year-old banyan tree at the centre of Lahaina town that was scorched when deadly wildfires ravaged Maui,\u00a0Hawaii<\/a>, last month is showing viridescent signs of new growth.<\/p>\n

The tree, which has been described as the \u201cheartbeat of Lahaina Town<\/a>\u201d was badly singed, but still standing last month after fires killed at least 97 people and reduced much of the historic town to ash.<\/p>\n

Since then, arborists have volunteered their time and expertise to save the tree, according to Hawaii\u2019s department of land and natural resources (DLNR) \u2013 and have suggested that new leaves sprouting from the tree\u2019s singed branches are a positive sign of recovery.<\/p>\n
