Now in a stunning revelation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/politics\/war_room\/2011\/06\/27\/eric_cantor_conflict_of_interest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Salon<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> reports that Cantor may have <strong>a vested interest in making sure the government defaults on its loans\u2013he stands to gain substantial sums of money if it does<\/strong>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">According to Salon, Cantor is invested in a mutual fund \u201cwhose performance is directly affected by debt ceiling brinkmanship.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Last year the Wall Street Journal reported [Murdoch delinked] that Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House, had between $1,000 and $15,000 invested in ProShares Trust Ultrashort 20+ Year Treasury EFT. The fund aggressively \u201cshorts\u201d long-term U.S. Treasury bonds, meaning that it performs well when U.S. debt is undesirable. (A short is when the trader hopes to profit from the decline in the value of an asset.)<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">According to his latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/pfds\/candlook.php?CID=N00013131\" target=\"_blank\">financial disclosure statement<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>, which covers the year 2010 and has been publicly available since this spring, Cantor still has up to $15,000 in the same fund\u2026<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u2026 [<span style=\"text-align: left\"><em>emphasis added<\/em><\/span>] <\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.aflcio.org\/2011\/06\/29\/will-rep-cantor-rake-in-massive-windfall-if-government-defaults\/\" target=\"_blank\">AFL-CIO<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I checked the trust out, and here\u2019s how ProShares describes Ultrashort 20+:<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This ETF seeks a return of -200% of the return of an index (target) for a single day.
