(See below. ;-)) Every Democratic candidate in America should be spreading the word about this one.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"12bachmann\" border=\"0\" alt=\"12bachmann\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/12bachmann.jpg\" width=\"355\" height=\"368\" \/>Several of the 2012 GOP presidential hopefuls have laid out economic platforms that would include huge cuts in the corporate tax rate. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) called for lowering the corporate tax rate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/article\/20110610\/STAFFBLOG07\/110619990\/mitt-romney-charming-churlish-and-a-little-tone-deaf#\" target=\"_blank\">from 35 percent to 25 percent<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>, while former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) went a step further, <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/economy\/2011\/06\/07\/238929\/analysis-pawlentys-tax-plan-cost\/#more-238929\" target=\"_blank\">calling for a cut to 15 percent<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In an interview published today by the Wall Street Journal, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) \u2014 who is toying with a presidential run herself \u2014 decided to one-up both Romney and Pawlenty, calling for a reduction in the corporate tax rate <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702304259304576375491103635726.html\" target=\"_blank\">to 9 percent<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>. Adding insult to injury, Bachmann wants to pair that huge tax cut with giant tax reductions for the rich, as well as a <span style=\"text-align: left\"><em>tax increase<\/em><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702304259304576375491103635726.html\" target=\"_blank\">on the working poor<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cIn my perfect world,\u201d she explains, \u201c<span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>we\u2019d take the 35% corporate tax rate down to nine so that we\u2019re the most competitive in the industrialized world. Zero out capital gains. Zero out the alternative minimum tax. Zero out the death tax.<\/strong><\/span>\u201d [&#8230;]<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Her main goal is to get tax rates down with a broad-based income tax that everyone pays and that \u201cgets rid of all the deductions.\u201d <\/font><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>A system in which 47% of Americans don\u2019t pay any tax is ruinous for a democracy, she says, \u201cbecause there is no tie to the government benefits that people demand.
