If younger voters and more committed Democrats turn out, Coakley will win. If older and less Democratic voters make up a greater part of the electorate, Republican nominee Scott Brown will win. Obama&#8217;s involvement could potentially make the difference for Coakley in turning out his natural support base &#8212; and if it doesn&#8217;t, expect a lot of talk in the press about how Obama couldn&#8217;t win the race.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Late Update: As expected, Gibbs announced that Obama will stop in Boston Sunday after a visit to a Washington D.C. church earlier in the day.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Gibbs also took a swipe at Brown using the latest Democratic party talking points, and said Obama &quot;sees a pretty clear distinction&quot; between Coakley who he views as a fighter for Massachusetts and &quot;a candidate on the other side who feels comfortable fighting for the insurance industry and big banks.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\"><strong>Asked about Coakley&#8217;s tanking poll numbers, Gibbs said Obama was &quot;happy to have a campaign on whether you&#8217;re for the status quo, protecting insurance company profits, bank company profits.&quot;<\/strong>\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/01\/obama-to-campaign-for-coakley-in-ma-sen.php\" target=\"_blank\">TPM<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p>In my view, Coakley made the same error Hillary Clinton made, early in the Democratic primaries: she assumed the job was already hers.&#160; I certainly hope her campaign can be salvaged, because there can be nothing accomplished in the Senate if Brown wins.&#160; All our progressive causes will be dead in the water.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s examine Brown\u2019s support.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><font color=\"#000000\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s217.photobucket.com\/albums\/cc83\/TomCat1948or2\/Blog%202010\/J-M\/ObamatoCampaignAgainstaMonster_2AF4\/browncontributions.gif\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"browncontributions\" border=\"0\" alt=\"browncontributions\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/s217.photobucket.com\/albums\/cc83\/TomCat1948or2\/Blog%202010\/J-M\/ObamatoCampaignAgainstaMonster_2AF4\/browncontributions_thumb.gif\" width=\"454\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a> Major U.S. banks which instigated the financial crisis are set to pay out \u201c<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704281204575003351773983136.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsTop\" target=\"_blank\">record<\/a><font color=\"#000000\">\u201d bonuses and compensation \u2014 $145 billion by some estimates. Wall Street\u2019s two largest political enforcers are also out fighting to elect him: <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><font color=\"#000000\">\u2013 <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The Wall Street front group FreedomWorks is mobilizing get out the vote efforts<\/span> for Brown<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomworks.org\/blog\/mclemente\/freedomworks-participates-in-voter-education-for-t\" target=\"_blank\">this weekend<\/a><font color=\"#000000\">. FreedomWorks organized the very first tea party protests, and has used its extensive staff and resources to mobilize rallies and advocacy campaigns on behalf of corporate interests. Dick Armey, who as a corporate lobbyist<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2009\/04\/15\/armey-financial-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\">represented<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">AIG, Lehman Brothers, and Merrill Lynch during the bailouit, is the leader of FreedomWorks. FreedomWorks is also<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomworks.org\/about\/board-of-directors\" target=\"_blank\">funded and chaired<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">by Steve Forbes and Frank Sands of Sands Capital Management.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\"><font color=\"#000000\">\u2013 <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The Wall Street front group Club for Growth is strongly \u201cboosting\u201d Brown and is expected to run ads in support for him<\/span>. According to recent disclosures, the<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clubforgrowth.org\/aboutus\/?subsec=0&amp;id=122\" target=\"_blank\">Club for Growth<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">is funded by a $1.4 million dollar donation from investor Stephen Jacksons of Stephens Groups Inc, a $1.4 million dollar donation from broker Richard Gilder, and $210,000-$630,000 donations from at least 10 other investors and financial industry professionals. The NRSC<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/bensmith\/0110\/A_Trade_Center_image_in_DSCC_spot.html\" target=\"_blank\">sharply criticized<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">Democrat Martha Coaxley over a DSCC ad,<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/bensmith\/0110\/A_Trade_Center_image_in_DSCC_spot.html\" target=\"_blank\">first reported<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">by Politico, that flashed an image of the Twin Towers. Rudy Giuliani, who stumped for Brown today,<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/corner.nationalreview.com\/post\/?q=MzQ3MTI0ZjZjNTFjM2Q2ZGE0MmIyZGE3NWE3YzAzZTI=\" target=\"_blank\">also slammed Coakley<\/a> <font color=\"#000000\">over the ad, saying it was \u201cunthinkable\u201d and \u201coffensive.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">On October 17th, 2001,<strong> Brown voted against a bill that would authorize \u201cleaves of absence for certain Red Cross employees participating in Red Cross emergencies.\u201d The bill gave 15 days of paid leave each year to state workers called up by the Red Cross to respond to disasters.<\/strong> At the time, state workers called for such emergencies were required to use sick and vacation days\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/theplumline.whorunsgov.com\/senate-republicans\/scott-brown-voted-against-giving-help-to-911-recovery-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Plumline<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p>What a creep!&#160; It\u2019s hard to goose-step with stiffer knees than this.&#160; The notion that this scum could win the Senate seat held for decades by Teddy Kennedy boggles the mind.&#160; Do you know anyone in Massachusetts?&#160; If so, please call them.&#160; Ask them to vote for Coakley.&#160; Ask them to contact all their local friends to vote for her.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was too long in coming.
