{"id":5071,"date":"2011-06-11T02:05:57","date_gmt":"2011-06-11T09:05:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5071"},"modified":"2011-06-11T02:05:57","modified_gmt":"2011-06-11T09:05:57","slug":"silence-proves-mckinsey-study-false","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/06\/11\/silence-proves-mckinsey-study-false\/","title":{"rendered":"Silence Proves McKinsey Study False"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Republicans have made much ado of late over the the McKinsey Study and it\u2019s claim that 30% of employers will stop employees\u2019 health coverage when the ACA is fully implemented in 2014.&#160; Having spent several years in the opinion research field, I know how to design studies that will produce whatever results I want.&#160; I know how to design an authentic study as well.&#160; I can tell the difference between the two by examining the methodology used.&#160; Any professional can, and lots of non professionals with common sense could as well.&#160; This is not proprietary.&#160; There is only one reason a company would refuse to disclose the methodology of a study.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"11bogusstudy\" border=\"0\" alt=\"11bogusstudy\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/11bogusstudy.jpg\" width=\"314\" height=\"279\" \/>The other day, the consulting company McKinsey released a startling study claiming that 30 percent of employers are planning to stop giving health insurance to their workers as a result of the Affordable Care Act. The study received a good deal [Murdoch delinked] of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/06\/07\/mckinsey-healthexchanges-idUSN0712987420110607\" target=\"_blank\">press coverage<\/a> and was <strong>widely bandied about by conservative politicians and media outlets as proof that conservative warnings about the law are coming to pass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But as a number of critics were quick to point out, <strong>McKinsey\u2019s finding is at odds with many other studies<\/strong> \u2014 and the company did not release key portions of the study\u2019s methodology, making it impossible to evaluate the study\u2019s validity. <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s now been a new twist in this story.<\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">I\u2019m told that the White House, as well as top Democrats on key House and Senate committees, have privately contacted McKinsey to ask for details on the study\u2019s methodology.
