America has waited for years for someone to take Newt to the vet, and someone finally has.  His Contract on America<\/em> turned out to be a contract on himself.  Newt does not realize that he\u2019s been snipped yet, but when he does, perhaps he\u2019ll be happier, more affectionate, and live a longer life.  In short, with no staff, running a campaign might be difficult.<\/font><\/p>\n

Less than a month after one of the most calamitous political launches<\/a> in recent memory, former House speaker Newt Gingrich\u2019s campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination imploded Thursday, when its top officials quit en masse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At least 16 of the former lawmaker\u2019s advisers, including all of his senior campaign aides, departed the fledgling operation in a major and potentially devastating shake-up. Those who left included Gingrich\u2019s campaign manager, his spokesman, top political strategists and key operatives from crucial GOP primary states. Former Georgia governor Sonny Perdue (R), who was Gingrich\u2019s national campaign co-chairman, also defected, to the presidential campaign of former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty (R), where a close political aide to the ex-governor is the campaign manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the campaign and the candidate disagree on the path, they\u2019ve got to part ways,\u201d said Rick Tyler, Gingrich\u2019s longtime spokesman, who submitted his resignation Thursday.<\/p>\n
