<\/p>\nYesterday, the opera broadcast was a collection of performances by Black artists throughout the Met’s history – as far back as 1952 (For perspective, Brown v. Board of Education was decided in 1954). There were some real rarities – both some voices and some arias I had never heard before, and even more I had not heard for decades (and then not in those roles.) It was exhilarating and humbling. I had not slept well … but I didn’t want to miss it and I’m so glad I didn’t.<\/p>\n
