But the intense push by abortion opponents, including Representatives Christopher H. Smith of New Jersey, Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania and Mike Pence of Indiana, sent a signal that Republicans intend to keep social issues on the front burner as Congress moves on to a further series of battles.

The abortion opponents lost on their effort to restrict money going to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers as part of the budget deal. But they succeeded in winning agreement for a separate vote on that issue next week — Senate Democrats are sure to defeat it — and in keeping in the budget deal a provision that would restrict abortion financing in Washington… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <NY Times>

Republicans may say that it’s about stopping federal funding for abortion, but they are lying That’s what Republicans do. There is no need, because the Hyde Amendment strictly forbids federal funding of abortion already. Confronted with that, the next Republican lie is that providing abortions is Planned Parenthood’s predominant activity.

Kyl is lying! It empowered women with control over both their own sexuality and reproduction. Now, to the pseudo-Christian followers of Republican Supply-side Jesus (not the real Jesus), this freedom for women plunged our culture into moral turpitude. No longer could they use the threat of unwanted pregnancy to enforce their abstinence only piety code.

Ladies, they want your freedom back by making access to birth control more difficult. They want to control not only your reproductive freedom, but also, your sexual behavior. In effect this makes them the Grand Old Pussy Posse, but humor aside, what they really want is to return you to property status, passing from ownership by father to ownership by husband.

Ladies, this is the Republican Plan for your future.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="background-image: none;
