{"id":4388,"date":"2011-03-24T03:21:46","date_gmt":"2011-03-24T10:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=4388"},"modified":"2011-03-24T03:21:46","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T10:21:46","slug":"a-sneak-attack-against-labor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/03\/24\/a-sneak-attack-against-labor\/","title":{"rendered":"A Sneak Attack Against Labor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Pearl Harbor Day is almost nine months away, but that doesn\u2019t matter to Republicans intent on perpetrating a sneak attack, a day that will live in infamy if it passes, against American workers, buried deep in a bill to ostensibly cut welfare waste.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"24UnionAttack\" border=\"0\" alt=\"24UnionAttack\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/24UnionAttack.jpg\" width=\"376\" height=\"275\" \/>All around the country, right-wing legislators are asking middle class Americans to pay for budget deficits caused mainly by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2240858\/\" target=\"_blank\">recession caused by Wall Street<\/a>; they are attacking workers\u2019 collective bargaining rights, which has provoked a huge <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;cd=4&amp;ved=0CDUQFjAD&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.truth-out.org%2Fmain-street-movement-erupts-as-thousands-across-country-protest-war-on-the-middle-class68039&amp;ei=9nOHTf_sHdPngQfw-LDUCA&amp;usg=AFQjCNGCyTIQm6gdVGGSpTFU4Ul5RJJ2PQ\" target=\"_blank\">Main Street Movement<\/a> to fight back. <\/p>\n<p>Now, a group of House Republicans is launching a new stealth attack against union workers. <strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">GOP Reps. Jim Jordan (OH), Tim Scott (SC), Scott Garrett (NJ), Dan Burton (IN), and Louie Gohmert (TX)<\/font><\/strong> have introduced H.R. 1135, which states that it is designed to \u201cprovide information on total spending on means-tested welfare programs, to provide additional work requirements, and to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-112hr1135ih\/pdf\/BILLS-112hr1135ih.pdf\" wtarget=\"_blank\">provide an overall spending limi<\/a>t on means-tested welfare programs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Much of the bill is based upon verifying that those who receive food stamps benefits are meeting the federal requirements for doing so. However, one section buried deep within the bill adds a startling new requirement.
