{"id":41583,"date":"2020-10-23T14:12:28","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T21:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=41583"},"modified":"2020-10-23T14:18:15","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T21:18:15","slug":"the-second-presidential-debate-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2020\/10\/23\/the-second-presidential-debate-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"The Second Presidential Debate 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">TomCat is busy with personal business today and tomorrow so I thought I would, in his absence, bring you the final presidential debate of 2020 and some commentary.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I must have been demented at the time, but I managed to sit through the 90 plus minutes of the second (some say the third, but the originally scheduled second debate was cancelled because of Trump&#8217;s dance with COVID-19) presidential debate.\u00a0 If you have not already seen it, here it is in its entirety.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Livestream: The final 2020 presidential debate on CNN\" width=\"695\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RidN26q3rCc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I have to admit that for the first 30 minutes or so, either the mute button worked wonders or Trump restrained himself.\u00a0 I think it was the former.\u00a0 Trump has no understanding of restraining himself.\u00a0 After that point, the gloves came off, albeit he was not the raving lunatic pugilist that I saw in the first debate.\u00a0 NBC&#8217;s Kristen Welker did a great job moderating but I think at times it was a challenge.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Following is a fact check of the debate by Canadian journalist Daniel Dale who now works for CNN.\u00a0 I just had to get that &#8220;Canadian plug&#8221; in!\u00a0 As Dale said, from a fact checker&#8217;s point of view there was a lot more fact checking required than in the first debate, and mostly of Trump but Biden did make some errors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&#039;Serial deliberate dishonesty&#039;: Final presidential debate fact check\" width=\"695\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/igOaFqHyPms?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">From <strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dcreport.org\/2020\/10\/23\/a-last-hurrah-for-the-2020-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DC Report.org<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Basically, what we got in a calmer debate was a collision of visions. Trump sees a business-dominant America, even in a pandemic, with fewer federal programs and individual responsibility to take care of oneself\u2014except for areas where he has an interest like abortion. Biden embraces bigger government services, healthcare, environment and caring for the vulnerable. &#8230;<\/p>\r\n<p>Trump likely did not persuade new voters. Biden may have done so, but certainly did not lose any.<\/p>\r\n<p>The hard part was sitting still while they went at it, trying to remember that Hunter Biden isn\u2019t running against Xi Jinping for U.S. president. At some points, you wondered whether they could agree on what color the stage was.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The &#8220;funniest&#8221; line came from Trump and it just shows how addled he is: from <strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/trump-mocked-for-taking-full-responsibility-on-covid-and-also-none-at-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TPM<\/a> <\/strong>(read the whole article if you can)<\/span><\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\u201cI take full responsibility,\u201d Trump said, before quickly adding: \u201cIt\u2019s not my fault it came here. It\u2019s China\u2019s fault.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">An inukshuk <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/inukshuk.jpg\" \/>\u00a0 (what some refer to as a pile of rocks) has more brains than Trump!\u00a0 An inukshuk has great meaning and use.\u00a0 Trump does not!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Personally, I think Biden was stronger, but then he did not have as much to prove as did Trump.\u00a0 As I said in <strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/2020\/10\/09\/squatchs-open-thread-09-october-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Squatch&#8217;s Open Thread 09 October 2020<\/a><\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"first-para\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The late John Turner, the 17th Prime Minister of Canada and a Liberal, who died two weeks ago at age 91 said\u00a0<strong>\u201cDemocracy does not happen by accident.\u00a0 Become involved!\u00a0 Get out there!\u00a0 Give something back!\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 That is the only way Trump and Republicans will be defeated.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Vote like your life depends on it, because it does!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">My final words,<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h1 align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Vote Blue No Matter Who Top to Bottom!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TomCat is busy with personal business today and tomorrow so I thought I would, in his absence, bring you the final presidential debate of 2020 and some commentary.
