Obama&#8217;s first address to a joint session of the US Congress on December 31, 2005.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the one she tends to show first when displaying her collection of collars and announces it is her favorite.\u00a0 She wore it to Pres. Obama&#8217;s State of the Union in 2012 (an election year), and her 20th anniversary on the bench in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>It was purchased in Cape Town, South Africa \u2013 a fact she&#8217;s always sure to share \u2013 although I was unable to learn the significance of its provenance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>MAJORITY OPINION<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_02_Majority-Agree.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-41266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_02_Majority-Agree.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_02_Majority-Agree.jpg 386w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_02_Majority-Agree-241x300.jpg 241w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_02_Majority-Agree-121x150.jpg 121w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When she is announcing a majority opinion for the Court, this is the collar she always wears.\u00a0 The beige and egg-yolk yellow crocheted jabot is quite elaborate, featuring pink edges and gold appliqu\u00e9s, all suspended from a gold chain.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s quick to add that it was a gift from her law clerks.\u00a0 (Kind of like the <strong><em>&#8220;Best Boss&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> coffee mug we might give \u2013 only a tad classier.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>DISSENT<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_03_Dissent.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-41267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_03_Dissent.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"387\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_03_Dissent.jpg 387w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_03_Dissent-242x300.jpg 242w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_03_Dissent-121x150.jpg 121w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 387px) 100vw, 387px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To express her disapproval (unfortunately too often \u2013 but her dissents are eloquent and legendary, and will surely be quoted frequently in future cases) she would wear a bold, black, spiky bib-style necklace decorated with rhinestones from the Banana Republic.\u00a0 It came from the VIP gift bag at <em>Glamour<\/em> magazine&#8217;s &#8220;Women of the Year&#8221; gala the year she was an honoree.<\/p>\n<p>It was no coincidence that she also wore it the day after the 2016 election, even though the court had no rulings to issue that day.\u00a0 It was such a popular design that it&#8217;s now available in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dissentpins.com\/collections\/jewelry?gclid=CjwKCAjw2Jb7BRBHEiwAXTR4jRow1JB-l0huBCzlKeGp_IqHs97_yxv8lG9U2g-rAMwVmupjcb_jJxoCMUsQAvD_BwE\">jewelry,<\/a>\u00a0magnets and\u00a0even <a href=\"https:\/\/dissentpins.com\/products\/dissent-collar-temporary-tattoos\">paste-on tattoos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When asked why she chose this one for Dissent, RBG simply said: &#8220;It looks fitting for dissent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>FEMINIST FAVORITE<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_04_Not-Like.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-41268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_04_Not-Like.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_04_Not-Like.jpg 418w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_04_Not-Like-261x300.jpg 261w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Collar_04_Not-Like-131x150.jpg 131w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To convey her sentiments of strong equal rights and feminist support, she will wear the Pegasus Necklace from Stella &amp; Dot (never heard of it, but apparently a fairly well-known jewelry maker).\u00a0 It was a gift from a fellow lawyer who served with her at ACLU.<\/p>\n<p>The gift-giver, Susan Hyman said, &#8220;It reminds me of something a warrior princess like Wonder Woman would wear as armor into battle. It projects strength, confidence, and fearlessness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Again, no coincidence that she chose it to wear to the Court&#8217;s first official portrait with <strong><em>Brett Kavanaugh<\/em><\/strong> on November 30, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>And not surprisingly, RBG sent Ms. Hyman a hand-written &#8220;Thank You&#8221;
