{"id":4020,"date":"2011-02-06T08:51:09","date_gmt":"2011-02-06T16:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=4020"},"modified":"2011-02-06T08:51:09","modified_gmt":"2011-02-06T16:51:09","slug":"what-the-republicans-plan-to-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/02\/06\/what-the-republicans-plan-to-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"What the Republicans Plan to Cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">At long last we\u2019re getting some of the first indications from the House on some of the things the new Republican majority wants to cut.&#160; As expected, they will try to cut the deficit on the backs of the poor, the weak and the powerless.&#160; <strong>RepubliSpeak Dictionary<\/strong>: <em>compassion<\/em> \u2013 screw the needy and pretend to care.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"6hate-lies-greed\" border=\"0\" alt=\"6hate-lies-greed\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/6hate-lies-greed.jpg\" width=\"364\" height=\"110\" \/>Even as they take a cleaver to many domestic agencies, Republicans now running the House are <strong>barely touching Congress&#8217; generous own budget<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>A new GOP proposal would <strong>reduce domestic agencies&#8217; spending by 9 percent<\/strong> on average through September, when the current budget year ends. <\/p>\n<p>If that plan becomes law, it could lead to <strong>layoffs of tens of thousands of federal employees<\/strong>, <strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">big cuts to heating and housing subsidies for the poor, reduced grants to schools and law enforcement agencies, and a major hit to the Internal Revenue Service&#8217;s budget<\/font><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Congress, on the other hand, would get nicked by only 2 percent<\/strong>, or $94 million. <\/p>\n<p>Recent hefty increases to the congressional budget &#8212; engineered by Democrats when they held power in the House from 2007-2010 &#8212; would remain largely in place under a plan announced Thursday by the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep.
