Dropping the Medicare expansion \u201cwould be necessary to get the 60 votes,\u201d he said.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Asked whether Democrats had truly dropped both provisions, Senator Max Baucus (D-) said, &quot;It&#8217;s looking like that&#8217;s the case,&quot;<\/font> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE5B83TG20091215\" target=\"_blank\">according to Reuters<\/a><font color=\"#000000\">.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Democrats had wanted to see Medicare expanded so that people aged 55 and over can buy in to the government-run plan, which currently covers senior citizens aged 65 or older.
