Matt Gaetz (objecting to Chairman&#8217;s Schiff impeachment inquiry) to such a degree that it now makes us wonder if Louie Gohmert is truly the dumbest person to serve in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>(Note to Louie: Matt Gaetz is doing a great <em>&#8220;Here \u2013 old my beer&#8221;<\/em> rendition.)<\/p>\n<p>Now most of us, if we&#8217;ve even heard about Gaetz at all, it would be because of his history of generating mugshots for DUI and speeding ticket arrests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Matt-Gaetz_DUI_Mugshot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38049\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Matt-Gaetz_DUI_Mugshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"666\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Matt-Gaetz_DUI_Mugshot.jpg 666w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Matt-Gaetz_DUI_Mugshot-150x74.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Matt-Gaetz_DUI_Mugshot-300x149.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But two weeks ago he joined forces with Rep. &#8220;Gym&#8221; Jordan to reveal that he believes the term &#8220;Kangaroo Court&#8221; originated from the beloved children&#8217;s TV show, <strong><em>Captain Kangaroo<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Matt Gaetz: &quot;What we see in this impeachment is a kangaroo court and Chairman Schiff is acting like a malicious Captain Kangaroo.&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QQPaj8sR0p\">pic.twitter.com\/QQPaj8sR0p<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/washingtonpost\/status\/1181585309974372353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 8, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Many of us Baby Boomers and some early Gen Xers can fondly recall Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans from our childhood days.\u00a0 Bob Keeshan, who created his TV show (which aired from 1955 to 1984), was a kind and gentle soul.\u00a0 And although he was a Marine during World War II, he was neither a Captain nor a Kangaroo nor even an Australian.\u00a0 He originally hails from Queens, NY \u2013 Trump&#8217;s home borough growing up.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Kangaroo gave himself that moniker because of his jacket&#8217;s huge pockets that held wonderful surprises \u2013 like a kangaroo&#8217;s pouch.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas <em>&#8220;Kangaroo Court&#8221;<\/em> is a phrase referring to a biased tribunal that ignores due process; or an unauthorized trial by folks who have decided to take the law into their own hands; or a hasty judicial action that proceeds rapidly in leaps and bounds (like a kangaroo) to a foregone conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not surprising that Gaetz would believe that Captain Kangaroo presides over his eponymous court.\u00a0 After all, Gaetz is everything Trump would want in a lap dog: loud, loyal, looney and happy to debase himself espousing talking points that a fifth grader would realize are too outlandish to believe.\u00a0 Fortunately for Trump, Gaetz is that profoundly dumb.<\/p>\n<p>Some folks believe that the phrase <strong><em>&#8220;Kangaroo Court&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> can be traced back to the 1849 California Gold Rush.\u00a0 There was a large influx of Australians hoping to make their fortunes there since it was easier to get to California by sea than to travel across our broad country from the east coast.\u00a0 Illegal prospecting was not looked on kindly and those <strong><em>&#8220;claim jumpers&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> were sternly dealt with by <strong><em>&#8220;kangaroo courts&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>. (Get it?)<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the innertubes decided to sternly deal with Gaetz&#8217;s stupidity.\u00a0 Some folks were merciless in mocking Gaetz&#8217;s stupidity:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My childhood was forever traumatized by watching the death penalty trials on Captain Kangaroo.
