{"id":37429,"date":"2019-08-23T15:22:53","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T22:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=37429"},"modified":"2019-08-23T15:22:53","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T22:22:53","slug":"friday-fun-the-masterpiece-vs-the-twitterverse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2019\/08\/23\/friday-fun-the-masterpiece-vs-the-twitterverse\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday Fun: &#8220;The Masterpiece&#8221; vs. The Twitterverse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember seven years ago when a well-meaning elderly parishioner was given the task of &#8220;repairing&#8221; the <strong><em>&#8220;Ecce Homo&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> (Behold the Man) fresco painting in Borja, Spain \u2013 and it was so terrible it became a Meme?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Botched-Fresco-Paiting_Ecce-Homo_Spain.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Botched-Fresco-Paiting_Ecce-Homo_Spain.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Botched-Fresco-Paiting_Ecce-Homo_Spain.png 664w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Botched-Fresco-Paiting_Ecce-Homo_Spain-150x84.png 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Botched-Fresco-Paiting_Ecce-Homo_Spain-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, an Obama-hating, Trump-loving, right-wing &#8220;artist&#8221; <strong><em>(Jon McNaughton)<\/em><\/strong> has unwittingly provided the Twitter World with another chance of restoring his painting of Trump, modestly called <i>&#8220;The Masterpiece&#8221;<\/i>, to a similar new level of mirth as the fresco restoration.<\/p>\n<p>McNaughton&#8217;s paintings have reflected his right-wing proclivities for years.\u00a0 So when Trump was elected he <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">practically<\/span> probably had an orgasm.\u00a0 He decided to do a portrait of Trump as an artist seated at an easel in what appears to be <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Wells_Cathedral_Nave_1,_Somerset,_UK_-_Diliff.jpg\">Wells Cathedral in England<\/a> (no one knows why), teasingly revealing just a corner of his &#8220;masterpiece&#8221; because he&#8217;s not yet finished&#8230; (<em>Editor&#8217;s Insertion: <\/em><strong>screwing America and the world<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>This is the original Tweet by McNaughton announcing the painting:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My new painting &#8211; &quot;The Masterpiece&quot;<br \/>How will history remember this presidency?<br \/>I believe it will be considered a &quot;Masterpiece.&quot;<br \/>More info at: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FTjoBry52v\">https:\/\/t.co\/FTjoBry52v<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zeQ3rNmpZt\">pic.twitter.com\/zeQ3rNmpZt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jon McNaughton (@McNaughtonArt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/McNaughtonArt\/status\/1163831145542193153?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 20, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>While many think the reveal looks like the corner of Monet&#8217;s <strong><em>&#8220;Water Lilies&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 the Twitterverse disagreed. And many took it upon themselves to fill-in the revealed corner of the canvas \u2026 with delightful results.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Trump_Masterpiece_General.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Trump_Masterpiece_General.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"448\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One aspect of the painting is plainly obvious: McNaughton has really done some major cosmetic work making Trump a LOT thinner.
