{"id":3666,"date":"2010-12-19T11:45:28","date_gmt":"2010-12-19T19:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3666"},"modified":"2010-12-19T11:45:28","modified_gmt":"2010-12-19T19:45:28","slug":"fidel-said-si-to-sicko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/12\/19\/fidel-said-si-to-sicko\/","title":{"rendered":"Fidel Said Si to Sicko!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">One of the more interesting thing that Wikileaks has revealed is that the Republican cable that Fidel Castro had banned Sicko in Cuba is a lie.&#160; Now for Republican operatives to lie is nothing unusual.&#160; When their mouths are open they are eating, drinking, snoring or lying.&#160; But what does make this relevant is the connection between Sicko and 9\/11 rescue workers.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 5px 0px 0px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"19sicko\" border=\"0\" alt=\"19sicko\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/19sicko.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"285\" \/>In a classic case of telling the boss what he wants to hear, WikiLeaks released cables asserting that Michael Moore&#8217;s documentary Sicko was banned in Cuba. <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newser.com\/story\/107864\/sicko-was-not-banned-in-cuba.html\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">Only problem? It wasn&#8217;t<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><strong>Michael Moore was as surprised as anyone when WikiLeaks revealed a US cable asserting that Cuban officials banned his <span style=\"text-align: left\"><em>Sicko <\/em><\/span>documentary because it depicted a &quot;mythical&quot; view of health care there. He was even more surprised when the media picked up on the cable and reported it as gospel truth.<\/strong> (See the <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2010\/dec\/17\/wikileaks-cuba-banned-sicko\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\"><em>Guardian<\/em><\/font><\/span><\/a><font face=\"Calibri\">, whose report in turn got widely disseminated.) The problem is that the documentary\u2014a damning assessment of the American health care system\u2014was <span style=\"text-align: left\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> banned in Cuba, he writes at the <\/font><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/michael-moore\/viva-wikileaks-sicko-was_b_798586.html\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">Huffington Post<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">As <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/digbysblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/wikileaks-and-michael-moore.html\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">Digby points out<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">, we used to have this thing that would actually check out stories before running them.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">If only there were professional people who gather facts and research issues and interview subjects who could be called upon to investigate such things. I recall that there used to be an organization called The New York Times which was interested in sorting out various secrets and lies but they seem to have gone into another business. (Some strange foreigners still practice this old fashioned craft but here in the US not so much.) Too bad.
