{"id":36251,"date":"2019-04-17T10:27:09","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T17:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=36251"},"modified":"2019-04-17T10:27:09","modified_gmt":"2019-04-17T17:27:09","slug":"democrats-knock-it-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2019\/04\/17\/democrats-knock-it-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats, Knock It Off!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">If I wake up in the middle of a political wet dream, and I am ripped from sleep by members of my own party drenching my naked body with ice water, I can tell that I am a Democrat.&nbsp; In 2008, there was a struggle between Clinton and Obama.&nbsp; Almost 5% of Democrats, angry that Clinton lost, voted for McCain.&nbsp; In 2016, angry that Bernie lost, over 10% of Bernie supporters voted for Trump.&nbsp; Are we starting for 2020 already?&nbsp; Democrats, knock it off!<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0417circular-firing-squad\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"0417circular-firing-squad\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/0417circular-firing-squad.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"442\">  <\/p>\n<p>&#8230;From canap\u00e9-filled fund-raisers on the coasts to the cloakrooms of Washington, mainstream Democrats are increasingly worried that their effort to defeat President Trump in 2020 could be complicated by Mr. Sanders, in a political scenario all too reminiscent of how Mr. Trump himself seized the Republican nomination in 2016.  <\/p>\n<p>How, some Democrats are beginning to ask, do they thwart a 70-something candidate from outside the party structure who is immune to intimidation or incentive and wields support from an unwavering base, without simply reinforcing his \u201cthe establishment is out to get me\u201d\u2019 message \u2014 the same grievance Mr. Trump used to great effect?  <\/p>\n<p>But stopping Mr. Sanders, or at least preventing a contentious convention, could prove difficult for Democrats.  <\/p>\n<p>He has enormous financial advantages \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/04\/16\/us\/politics\/campaign-finance-2020-fundraising.html?module=inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">already substantially outraising his Democratic rivals<\/a> \u2014 that can sustain a major campaign through the primaries. And he is well positioned to benefit from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/us\/politics\/2020-presidential-candidates.html?module=inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a historically large field of candidates<\/a> that would splinter the vote: If he wins a substantial number of primaries and caucuses and comes in second in others, thanks to his deeply loyal base of voters across many states, he would pick up formidable numbers of delegates&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/16\/us\/politics\/bernie-sanders-democratic-party.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NY Times<\/a>&gt;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">This is the worst thing establishment Democrats could do.&nbsp; Look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CN_1skpp8cA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this video<\/a>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/CN_1skpp8cA\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/font>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Bernie&#8217;s campaign is behaving just as badly.&nbsp; They are fundraising with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/bernie-s-campaign-hits-back-anti-sanders-dems-fundraising-email-n995066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the message<\/a> &#8220;The Democratic establishment and high-dollar donors are already planning how to stop our campaign. They are terrified of our movement \u2014 as they should be.&#8221;&nbsp; That will only frighten establishment Democrats more, a very unwise choice.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">In the end, no matter who wins have a massive bloc of resentful lefties, who feel anger toward and unrepresented by the winning candidate.&nbsp; How insane!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Democrats need to knock it off. If you support Bernie, support him. If you support someone else, support them. If we allow our disagreements to become feuds, whoever wins our nomination will be too battered and bloody to win the general. Let&#8217;s compete on issue and let the voters choose the individuals. And when we have a nominee, we ALL need to get behind them with enthusiastic support.
