And the Justice Department\u2019s excuse for why he\u2019s unavailable \u2014 the partial <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2019\/1\/10\/18175389\/government-shutdown-federal-worker-pay-loan-banks\" target=\"_blank\">government shutdown<\/a><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"> \u2014 doesn\u2019t add up.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Barr <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/meetings\/nomination-of-the-honorable-william-pelham-barr-to-be-attorney-general-of-the-united-states\" target=\"_blank\">will appear<\/a><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"> before the Senate Judiciary Committee for a confirmation hearing in Washington, DC, on Tuesday to replace former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and current acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker. Some committee Democrats have complained that ahead of the hearing, Barr is declining invitations to meet, which is generally customary.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctpost.com\/local\/article\/Blumenthal-denied-meeting-with-attorney-general-13522152.php\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#000000\">said<\/font><\/a><font color=\"#000000\"> on Wednesday that he learned he wouldn\u2019t get a meeting with Barr ahead of the hearing, calling Barr\u2019s refusal \u201centirely unprecedented and unacceptable.\u201d He said he was offered a meeting after the hearing, but obviously, he\u2019d much rather meet before.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">\u201cThe Department of Justice\u2019s attempt to excuse this gross break in the norms by citing a \u2018truncated schedule\u2019 is galling when they are the ones who have rushed it,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cMy Republican colleagues should share my outrage at this appalling violation of the Senate\u2019s independent authority.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">He&#8217;s had plenty of time to meet with Republicans. I suspect he&#8217;s giving them the criminal assurances they want, so they don&#8217;t worry when he lies and promises integrity during the hearings. <strong>RESIST<\/strong>!!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2019\/01\/us-congressman-says-doesnt-understand-white-nationalist-white-supremacist-became-offensive\/\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">Raw Story<\/font><\/a><font color=\"#0000ff\">: <\/font><font color=\"#000000\">Republican U.S. Congressman Steve King of Iowa, in <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/10\/us\/politics\/steve-king-trump-immigration-wall.html#click=https:\/\/t.co\/H82LBwBSuh\" target=\"_blank\">a lengthy New York Times profile<\/a><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\">, expressed dismay and concern that \u201cwhite nationalist\u201d and \u201cwhite supremacist\u201d are offensive.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">\u201cWhite nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization \u2014 how did that language become offensive?\u201d Rep. King asked the Times. \u201cWhy did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">King, a nine-term Congressman who represents a district that is more than 95 percent white, is perhaps best-known for accusing undocumented immigrants of having <\/font><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com\/2014\/04\/gop_congressman_practically_every_undocumented_immigrant_is_a_drug_smuggler_video\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ccalves the size of cantaloupes\u201d from \u201crunning drugs across the Mexican border.\u201d<\/a><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">The Times says that \u201cMr. King, in the interview, said he was not a racist.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">The paper notes that Rep. King \u201chas used racist language in the past, promotes neo-Nazis on Twitter and was recently denounced by one Republican leader as a white supremacist.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">King is not a racist, the Pope is not a Catholic, and bears never, ever shit in the woods. How would he feel about the terms black nationalist and black supremacist?
