It is “c<\/span>haos and hate from the GOP as Democrats get to work”.\u00a0 And Democrats are coming out of the block like gangbusters ready to put Republicans in their place!<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, tensions in Washington continued to grow as President Donald Trump tries to leverage his government shutdown to get his border wall. Meanwhile, a number of\u00a0state legislatures<\/a>\u00a0were sworn in, and the newly-empowered House Democrats began to\u00a0open investigations<\/a>\u00a0into the Trump administration. And in the midst of everything, right-wing politicians and activists are still getting themselves into trouble.<\/p>\n

Here are five of the craziest right-wing moments this week:<\/p>\n

  1. Steve King says there\u2019s nothing wrong with white supremacy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is one of the House GOP\u2019s most frequent humiliations. He has a long history of\u00a0racist comments<\/a>, has\u00a0promoted content from neo-Nazis<\/a>, and gave an interview to a far-right Austrian party founded by an SS officer while on a\u00a0Holocaust awareness tour of Europe. But this week, he stepped so far over the line that even he seemed to realize he was in trouble.<\/p>\n

    In an\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0this week, King actually said he didn\u2019t see the problem with being a white supremacist. \u201cWhite nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization \u2014 how did that language become offensive? Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?\u201d<\/p>\n

    As\u00a0even fellow Republicans<\/a>\u00a0started to condemn him, King put out a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0attacking the\u00a0Times<\/em>\u00a0for reporting what he said. He also denied being a white nationalist, saying that he was simply a regular nationalist, and \u201can advocate for Western Civilization\u2019s values\u201d \u2014 although it is worth noting he has previously\u00a0claimed<\/a>\u00a0he thinks the reason \u201cWestern Civilization\u201d is so good is that is has so many white people contributing to it.<\/p>\n

    While King managed to\u00a0barely survive<\/a>\u00a0a Democratic challenge last year in his deep-red congressional district, he may face an even harder battle the next time around. That\u2019s because Republicans are so fed up with his antics that he is now facing a\u00a0primary challenge\u00a0from state Sen. Randy Feenstra.<\/p>\n

    It should be no surprise then that Rep Steve King tweeted: <\/span><\/p>\n

    Mr. President @<\/span>RealDonaldTrump<\/span><\/a> if the time comes that it is necessary for you declare a state of emergency for border security, build the whole wall out of concrete. Let it stand forever as a monument to the Rule of Law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    The Rule of Law???\u00a0 He has to be kidding.\u00a0 Unfortunately he is not.\u00a0 This racist idiot knows nothing of the Rule of Law!<\/span><\/p>\n
