{"id":3517,"date":"2010-12-03T03:10:39","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T11:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3517"},"modified":"2010-12-03T03:10:39","modified_gmt":"2010-12-03T11:10:39","slug":"dog-food-commission-doa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/12\/03\/dog-food-commission-doa\/","title":{"rendered":"Dog Food Commission DOA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I wish that people would stop calling this the cat food commission.&#160; Cats (except a few fat ones on Wall Street) are far to decent to support such an assault on middle class Americans.&#160; Also, Republicans think cat food is to good for the poor and middle classes, so they have rigged the economy so that it is priced too high for us.&#160; Dog food is all we can afford.&#160; In any case, the Dog Food Commission is DOA.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 5px 10px 0px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"3dogfood\" border=\"0\" alt=\"3dogfood\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/3dogfood.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"239\" \/>For some Republicans, there just aren&#8217;t enough tax cuts included in the catfood commission&#8217;s recommendations to be able to support it. Yes, ostensibly this commission was intended to actually reduce the deficit, and yes, to do so the country will need to increase revenue. Math that is just lost on members like <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/on-the-money\/budget\/131739-baucus-will-vote-against-deficit-panel-plan\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. David Camp<\/a> (top Republican on Ways and Means, gawd help us) who just can&#8217;t stomach the revenue raisers that did manage to make it into the plan.<\/p>\n<p>The other Republicans <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/1210\/45889.html\" target=\"_blank\">voting no<\/a>, so far, are Rep. Paul Ryan, the incoming chairman of the Budget Committee, and probably Rep. Jeb Hensarling. Republican Senators Judd Gregg, Tom Coburn, and Mike Crapo are yes votes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Among Dems, Kent Conrad is thus far the only guaranteed yes<\/strong>. Baucus is a no, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/on-the-money\/budget\/131739-baucus-will-vote-against-deficit-panel-plan\">saying<\/a> &quot;The Deficit Commission recommendations paint a big red target on rural America, and I won\u2019t support anything that puts the debt burden on the backs of Montanans and other rural states, while others get a free pass.&quot; Joining him are Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2010\/11\/16\/921062\/-Rep.-Jan-Schakowsky-releases-deficit-reduction-plan\" target=\"_blank\">released her own, much better, plan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.washingtonpost.com\/plum-line\/2010\/12\/andy_stern_will_vote_no.html\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Stern<\/a>.
