{"id":3508,"date":"2010-12-02T02:22:19","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T10:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3508"},"modified":"2010-12-02T02:22:19","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T10:22:19","slug":"the-republican-threat-is-absurd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/12\/02\/the-republican-threat-is-absurd\/","title":{"rendered":"The Republican Threat Is Absurd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">What if the Republicans were to say that, if they don\u2019t get their way, they will attack and destroy the twin towers of the World Trade Center?&#160; We\u2019d think that treat was insane, right?&#160; After all, the twin towers have already been destroyed as a result of Republican incompetence.&#160; They can\u2019t destroy them any more than they already are.&#160; Well, when Mitch McConnell issued his ultimatum that all forty two Republican Senators will filibuster everything unless they get to add $700b billion to the deficit for extra tax cuts for the rich, that threat is no different, because they already filibuster virtually everything before the Senate.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 5px 10px 0px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"filibuzzards\" border=\"0\" alt=\"filibuzzards\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/filibuzzards.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced this morning that Republicans will block any legislation from coming to the Senate floor until two key economic issues are addressed: funding the government (the \u201ccontinuing resolution\u201d which must pass to prevent a government shutdown) and the extension of the Bush-era tax cuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McConnell said that members of his caucus are united in the pledge to use procedural votes to prevent any other non-economic issues &#8212; including the new START treaty, the DREAM Act, or the defense authorization bill that contains a potential repeal of the military\u2019s Don\u2019t Ask Don\u2019t Tell policy \u2013 from coming to the floor for debate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Republicans have pleaded with Democrats to put aside their wish-list &#8211; to focus on the things Americans want us to focus on,&quot; McConnell said on the Senate floor. &quot;They&#8217;ve ignored us. The voters repudiated their agenda at the polls.
