Jackson said on the radio show Urban Family Talk on Wednesday. \u201cWe are a Judeo-Christian country. We are nation rooted and grounded in Christianity and that\u2019s that. And anybody that doesn\u2019t like that, go live somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pastor continued, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s very simple. Just go live somewhere else. Don\u2019t try to change our country into some sort of Islamic republic or try to base our country on Sharia law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s remarks came in response to reports that Democrats were attempting to change legislation that bans the wearing of headscarves and hijabs on the floor of the House of Representatives. The proposal was made to accommodate incoming lawmaker Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, one of the first Muslim women to serve Congress in U.S. history along with Representative-elect Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.\u00a0 &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The proposed rule change was co-authored by Nancy Pelosi, the current House Minority Leader and likely the next speaker of the chamber when Democrats take back the majority in January. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), ranking member of the HELP committee\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LnIpua8pyQM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3DLnIpua8pyQM&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1544205560118000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEpdhZdPEyV7sK222A-dybBun6ctg\">reemphasized\u00a0<\/a>last week that Democrats would continue to block the Labor Department nominees until the Senate confirms Pearce and Feldblum.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Click through for a Democrat strategy playing with the rules as they exist.\u00a0 Good play Democrats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As if EW Jackson isn&#8217;t enough, Senator Mike Lee is outraged with Feldblum\u2019s reconfirmation to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, calling her a \u201cthreat to religious liberty and the institution of marriage.\u201d\u00a0 There&#8217;s that religious liberty misnomer again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/nationallawjournal\/2018\/12\/06\/justice-kagan-throws-shade-on-her-originalist-colleagues\/?kw=Justice%20Kagan%20Throws%20Shade%20On%20Her%20Originalist%20Colleagues&amp;et=editorial&amp;bu=NationalLawJournal&amp;cn=20181206&amp;src=EMC-Email&amp;pt=NewsroomUpdates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>National Law Journal<\/strong><\/span><\/a> &#8212;\u00a0Some U.S. Supreme Court justices think \u201coriginal understanding\u201d is the \u201calpha and omega of every constitutional question,\u201d Justice Elena Kagan\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2018\/17-646_1bn2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Thursday, but \u201cthere are other people on this bench who do not.\u201d She and others indicated they would need more justification for throwing out a court-created doctrine in a case that has potential consequences for special counsel-related prosecutions. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; counsel to Terance Gamble, an Alabama man who was convicted and sentenced in state and federal prosecutions for the same crime: felon in possession of a firearm. Gamble is asking the justices to overrule a 170-year-old doctrine that is known as the \u201cseparate sovereigns\u201d exception to the Fifth Amendment\u2019s double jeopardy clause. That clause prohibits more than one prosecution or punishment for the same offense.<\/p>\n<p>Gamble\u2019s case has drawn\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/courts_law\/supreme-court-to-consider-case-that-could-affect-potential-manafort-prosecutions\/2018\/12\/02\/40277086-ed01-11e8-baac-2a674e91502b_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">considerable attention<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0because of its possible import for Special Counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation and prosecutions of Russian interference in the 2016 election and involvement of the Trump campaign. Elimination of the separate sovereigns exception could bar states from pursuing certain prosecutions under their state laws.
