{"id":3468,"date":"2010-11-27T02:24:01","date_gmt":"2010-11-27T10:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3468"},"modified":"2010-11-27T02:24:01","modified_gmt":"2010-11-27T10:24:01","slug":"on-which-street-will-obama-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/11\/27\/on-which-street-will-obama-walk\/","title":{"rendered":"On Which Street Will Obama Walk?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Here\u2019s a fact.&#160; Obama cannot walk on both Wall Street and on Main Street at the same time.&#160; Any appearance that he does so is mere pretense.&#160; To walk on Wall Street is to oppose Main Street.&#160; To walk on Main Street is to oppose Wall Street.&#160; It was not always so.&#160; Before the repeal of Glass-Steagall, Investment Banks served to transfer wealth, and Commercial Banks served to provide the loans needed to fuel the economy.&#160; Now all have flocked to investment, because that\u2019s where the most money can be made.&#160; Nobody is fueling the economy.&#160; Unless government does so, funding the effort with funds from the beneficiaries of unprecedented upward transfer of wealth, the economy will continue to wither.&#160; The economy depends on jobs here to benefit Main Street.&#160; Transfer of wealth depends on keeping wages here depresses and transferring jobs offshore to benefit Wall Street.&#160; On which Street will Obama walk?<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font color=\"#242424\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 5px 0px 0px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"27wall-main\" border=\"0\" alt=\"27wall-main\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/27wall-main.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>Yeah yeah, I&#8217;ve <\/font><\/font><\/span><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/kos.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2010\/11\/18\/921637\/-Get-Wall-Street-out-of-the-White-House\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\">said it before<\/font><\/a><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font color=\"#242424\">, and I&#8217;ll keep saying it as long as I have to. Obama <\/font><\/span><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/1110\/45511.html\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\">has a choice<\/font><\/a><\/font><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#242424\"> to make.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">After business leaders sank millions into the midterms to defeat Democrats, a chastened Obama administration is seeking reconciliation with the corporate community.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">But after two years of building frustration, the executives say they won\u2019t be won over by another round of private lunches and photo opportunities at the White House.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">If President Barack Obama has any hope for a truce with corporate America in time for his 2012 reelection campaign, he needs to drop the name-calling, try to see their point of view better and step up with some specific proposals [&#8230;]<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">\u201cWe have to see some concrete policies that will help grow business because everyone\u2019s goal is to grow jobs. This isn\u2019t hocus-pocus. There are concrete steps to take for job growth,\u201d she added. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in\" align=\"left\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-11-11\/investors-show-obama-no-respect-in-poll-as-profits-surge-with-u-s-stocks.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-align: left; font-family: \"><font color=\"#0066cc\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\">Reality<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-align: left; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#242424\">:<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">Investors around the world say President Barack Obama is bad for the bottom line, even though <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>U.S. corporations are on track for the biggest earnings growth in 22 years and the stock market is headed for its best back-to- back annual gains since 2004<\/strong><\/span>. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in\" align=\"left\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/24\/business\/economy\/24econ.html?_r=1&amp;hp\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-align: left; font-family: \"><font color=\"#0066cc\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\">Reality<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-align: left; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#242424\">:<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">American businesses earned profits at an annual rate of $1.66 trillion in the third quarter, according to a Commerce Department report released Tuesday. <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>That is the highest figure recorded since the government began keeping track over 60 years ago<\/strong><\/span>, at least in nominal or non-inflation-adjusted terms.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#222222\">Corporate profits have been going gangbusters for a while. Since their cyclical low in the fourth quarter of 2008, profits have grown for seven consecutive quarters, at some of the fastest rates in history. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 8.3pt\" color=\"#242424\">There&#8217;s no job growth because corporations aren&#8217;t reinvesting their massive profits into new hires.
