Last week, he told a whopper that made his nose grow another inch.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px 0px 0px; display: inline; float: left;\" title=\"22chickenhawk\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/22chickenhawk.jpg\" alt=\"22chickenhawk\" width=\"197\" height=\"240\" align=\"left\" \/>Last week during his book\/legacy polishing tour, President Bush tried to absolve himself from responsibility for the downward spiral that became the war in Afghanistan by the end of his presidency. Host Candy Crowley challenged Bush on Afghanistan saying that Americans are \u201cweary\u201d that U.S. troops are still being killed there after nine years and that Bush \u201cventured off into a war that began at least on one great false premise unknown at the time.\u201d But instead of taking responsibility, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2010\/POLITICS\/11\/14\/bush.interview\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; color: #0066cc;\">Bush blamed NATO<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">BUSH: <span style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>What happened in Afghanistan was that our NATO allies turned out \u2014 some of them turned out not to be willing to fight<\/strong><\/span>. And therefore, our assumption that we had ample troops, U.S. and NATO troops, turned out to be a not true assumption and so we adjusted. And I completely disagree with the take eye off the ball. I found that to be empty political rhetoric. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Today on CNN, when Crowley asked Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen \u2014 whom Bush appointed to in 2007 \u2014 about Bush\u2019s version of history Mullen contradicted Bush entirely\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8230;Watch it:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"text-align: left; mso-spacerun: yes;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"640\" height=\"505\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/IIxTyp_9ugU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"640\" height=\"505\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/IIxTyp_9ugU?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\"><\/embed><\/object><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Indeed, on Dec. 11, 2007, Mullen said that he and Defense Secretary Robert Gates ignored an urgent request from U.S. commanders in Afghanistan for 50,000 more troops. \u201cIn Afghanistan, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/issues\/2009\/08\/afghanistan_strategy.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; color: #0066cc;\">we do what we can<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">. In Iraq, we do what we must,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">But Bush may have to revisit his version of history because the U.S. Army\u2019s official history of the war <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/01\/02\/army-history-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; color: #0066cc;\">coincides with Mullen\u2019s view<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">. Reporting on the report, the New York Times noted that American forces were \u201chamstrung by inadequate resources\u201d and thus \u201cmissed opportunities to stabilize Afghanistan during the early years of the war.\u201d The Times added that \u201cthe invasion of Iraq was siphoning away resources. After the invasion started in March 2003, the history says, the United States clearly \u2018had a very limited ability to increase its forces\u2019 in Afghanistan.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">It\u2019s also quite ironic that Bush would blame NATO for his incompetence seeing that members of the Atlantic Alliance wanted to be more involved in the war at the beginning but Bush <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2088113\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; color: #0066cc;\">rebuffed their offers<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">&#8230; [<em>emphasis original<\/em>]<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/11\/21\/mullen-bush-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think Progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We could have be in and out of Afghanistan in short order, but Bush diverted the forces needed into his War for Oil and Conquest in Iraq.\u00a0 Instead of using the forces that remained to capture Osama and defeat Al Qaeda, he diverted them to a failed attempt to secure the route for a pipeline from The Caspian Sea to Karachi.\u00a0 The object was to seize control of the huge gas reserves in <em>the Stans<\/em> from Russia.\u00a0 Blaming NATO forces for his own incompetence is the act of a coward.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the many nicknames I made up to satirically describe the character and personality of GW Bush during his regime is Potomac Pinocchio,\u00a0 fitting for ome of America\u2019s most dishonest presidents ever.
