{"id":3413,"date":"2010-11-19T02:59:11","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T10:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3413"},"modified":"2010-11-19T02:59:11","modified_gmt":"2010-11-19T10:59:11","slug":"action-alert-kucinich-is-a-pain-in-the-ass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/11\/19\/action-alert-kucinich-is-a-pain-in-the-ass\/","title":{"rendered":"Action Alert: Kucinich Is a Pain in the Ass!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Dennis Kucinich can be very frustrating.&#160; Early on in the 2008 primaries, he was my second choice behind John Edwards.&#160; Then when asked who he would choose to be his VP, he chose Ron Paul!&#160; Argh!&#160; That dropped him off the list completely.&#160; It became clear that Dennis was thinking only of a single issue, war, and ignoring Paul\u2019s stances on such items as the civil rights, social security, and the safety net.&#160; Had Dennis been elected President, I have little doubt that some wing-nut would have promoted Paul with a second amendment solution in short order.&#160; Dennis does not have the personality to be elected President.&#160; He has no tact.&#160; He\u2019s in people\u2019s faces all the time.&#160; He\u2019s a pain in the ass!&#160; And he\u2019s just the pain in the ass we need as Ranking Member in the Oversight Committee to oppose Darryl Issa.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"18Kucinich\" border=\"0\" alt=\"18Kucinich\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/18Kucinich.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"243\" \/>Excellent news. I cannot think of anyone who will be more capable of keeping Darrell Issa in check than Dennis Kucinich. His <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/11\/kucinich-confirms-oversight-run-says-issa-is-reckless.php\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">challenge to Towns<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"> is one worth supporting. As it stands right now, it looks like the Dems are in lockstep behind Towns, which I view as an error we will all come to deeply regret. <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">From <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/11\/kucinich-confirms-oversight-run-says-issa-is-reckless.php\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">Rep. Kucinich&#8217;s letter to Dems<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">:<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">cannot simply stand by idly and hope that such a reckless approach to the use of the power of the Chair will not happen, especially since it is not only being promised, but demonstrated by the person who will hold the gavel.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">It is a matter of the highest importance that any intemperate use of the power of the Chair be challenged at every turn.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Accordingly, I have decided to step forward as a candidate for Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. In that capacity, here is my pledge to you and our fellow members of the House:<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">1. <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Zero tolerance for smears and innuendo.<\/strong><\/span> Every single statement by Chairman Issa which is lacking in respect for the process of oversight, every unsubstantiated allegation or any publically pronounced assumption which lacks basic fairness will be promptly challenged.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">2. <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>I will encourage a team approach on the Committee<\/strong><\/span> which will tap the talents of all members to actively participate in responding to any abuse of process.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">3. <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>All members will receive weekly updates<\/strong><\/span> of oversight activities to be able to provide input.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">4. <span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Cooperation with Chairman Issa when, and only when, he proceeds in an even-handed manner<\/strong><\/span> which demonstrates basic fairness and respect for due process.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Via Dennis G at <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><a style=\"text-align: left\" href=\"http:\/\/www.balloon-juice.com\/2010\/11\/17\/give-dennis-that-chair\/\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Calibri\">Balloon Juice<\/font><\/a><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">:<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><span style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The truth is that Towns is not a fighter and we need a fighter as the Ranking Democrat on the Committee. <\/font><\/strong><\/span><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">He is a guy with a safe seat who is willing to try and find common ground with everybody. He has run the Committee with the assumption that everybody on it views the responsibilities of Oversight the way he views them. He could not be more mistaken. <\/font><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><strong>His response to Issa\u2019s plans to use control of the powerful committee for partisan witch hunts has been merely to say that \u201c&#8230;any attempt to use this committee as a political weapon are intolerable and he will lead a strong and unified resistance against any such effort.\u201d<\/strong><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Really? Seriously?<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Please Congressman Towns\u2014be truthful\u2014can you think of a single Republican who will take a stand against Issa? Could you name any Republican in Congress who would stand united with you to fight Issa\u2019s planned use of the Committee as a \u201cpolitical weapon\u201d? Any Republican on the Committee? Crickets. Just who will constitute this \u201cunified resistance\u201d that Towns speaks about? Sadly, he just screams weakness.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Truth be told, Issa and the Republicans have already drunk his milkshake. As Ranking member of the Oversight Committee, Towns only offers impotent rage at the abuses that led to his pre-surrender before Issa\u2019s campaign of orchestrated abuse even gets off the ground. <\/font><span style=\"text-align: left\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><strong>Somehow, I think we could do better.<\/strong><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><font style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Yes we can. Kucinich is at his very best when he is standing up for what&#8217;s right, just like when he introduced 35 articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney.
