{"id":33729,"date":"2018-09-16T13:42:53","date_gmt":"2018-09-16T20:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=33729"},"modified":"2018-09-16T14:01:03","modified_gmt":"2018-09-16T21:01:03","slug":"grassley-and-the-pervert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2018\/09\/16\/grassley-and-the-pervert\/","title":{"rendered":"Grassley and the Pervert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">How many of you can remember, by name, sixty five members of the opposite sex, who you knew when you were in High School, but who did not attend the same same high school you did?\u00a0 If you needed a document by tomorrow morning, how many of you could locate all 65, contact them, and secure their signatures on a highly controversial document?\u00a0 How many of you could get that document into the treacherous disingenuous claws of Chuck &#8220;Snake in the&#8221; Grassley [R-IA] on time?\u00a0 Republicans want you to believe that you could.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"color: #4c4e4d; font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"0916Kavanaugh\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/0916Kavanaugh.jpg\" alt=\"0916Kavanaugh\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"color: #4c4e4d; font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">Sixty-five women who knew Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in high school have testified to his good character in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/2018-09-14%2065%20Women%20who%20know%20Kavanaugh%20from%20High%20School%20-%20Kavanaugh%20Nomination.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; color: #4c4e4d;\">, in light of recently surfaced allegations that he tried to force himself on a girl during his time at Georgetown Preparatory School, an all-boys school in Bethesda, Maryland.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"color: #4c4e4d; font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">According to the allegations, detailed to congressional Democrats and <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=66960X1516588&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorker.com%2Fnews%2Fnews-desk%2Fa-sexual-misconduct-allegation-against-the-supreme-court-nominee-brett-kavanaugh-stirs-tension-among-democrats-in-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported by the New Yorker<\/a><\/span><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; color: #4c4e4d;\">, Kavanaugh held down a girl at a high school party in the 1980s and attempted to force himself on her, covering her mouth to quiet her protests. Kavanaugh denied the allegations in a statement to the New Yorker, as did a classmate who was reportedly involved in the incident.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; color: #4c4e4d;\">On Friday, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released a letter written by 65 women who mostly attended all-girls high schools around Georgetown Prep and have known Kavanaugh for more than three decades, in defense of his character. The women write:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt; color: #4c4e4d;\">We are women who have known Brett Kavanaugh for more than 35 years and knew him while he attended high school between 1979 and 1983. For the entire time we have known Brett Kavanaugh, he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect. We strongly believe it is important to convey this information to the Committee at this time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2018\/9\/14\/17860488\/brett-kavanaugh-sexual-assault-georgetown-prep-defense\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vox<\/a>&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bAWZ0w6a0gk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> covered the story as well, without pointing out how absurdly remarkable it is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/bAWZ0w6a0gk?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In my opinion, the Republican\u00a0 Reich discovered Pervert Kava-Nazi&#8217;s crime when they were vetting him, and when they couldn&#8217;t talk their Fuhrer out of appointing another pervert to SCROTUS (Republican Unconstitutional VD), they prepared a cover-up in advance, as Joan McCarter said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2018\/9\/14\/1795777\/-What-did-Grassley-know-about-sexual-assault-allegations-against-Kavanaugh-and-when-did-he-know-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Kos<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;Clearly, they knew this was coming and they&#8217;ve known for quite a while\u2014long enough to round up three dozen women willing to sign onto a draft of a letter responding to allegations that had not yet been made, to say that he didn&#8217;t try to rape them. Might that not have raised a few questions for these women? Our own Adam Bonin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/adambonin\/status\/1040639869201072128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">makes a good point<\/a>: &#8220;It strikes me that there are likely women out there who were approached to sign this letter, and chose not to. If nothing else, those women could tell us exactly how long this draft letter has been circulating.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It would be helpful to hear from those women who didn&#8217;t sign on to the letter.
