Ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the Manafort trial appears to be winding down I thought it would be fun to focus on some <em>\u201cLegal Odds &amp; Ends\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re probably aware of the fact that <strong>Cranky Judge Ellis<\/strong> (who appears to be putting his thumb on the scales of \u201cjustice\u201d in favor of <strong>Paul Manafort<\/strong>) would not allow the prosecutor to show the jury his wildly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/self-described-leather-addict-buzz-bissinger-calls-out-manaforts-ridiculous-ostrich-jacket\">extravagant $15,000 ostrich-leather jacket or his even more extravagant $18,500 python-leather jacket<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Legal_Manafort_Ostrich_Python_Jackets.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33353\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Legal_Manafort_Ostrich_Python_Jackets.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Legal_Manafort_Ostrich_Python_Jackets.jpg 555w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Legal_Manafort_Ostrich_Python_Jackets-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Legal_Manafort_Ostrich_Python_Jackets-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Having been so chastised, the prosecutors realized they had no chance of introducing Manafort\u2019s <em>\u201cJacket for Every Treason\u201d<\/em> of live Puffins:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Defiant Manafort Enters Trial Wearing Coat Made Of Live Puffins <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yPM9U6Xd3y\">https:\/\/t.co\/yPM9U6Xd3y<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SrlM5B7lYb\">pic.twitter.com\/SrlM5B7lYb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Onion (@TheOnion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheOnion\/status\/1026562075999592448?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 6, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And although Judge Ellis has also forbidden prosecutors to even <em>say<\/em> the word <strong><em>\u201coligarch\u201d<\/em><\/strong> in relation to the \u201cfinancing\u201d Manafort received from Russian billionaire oligarchs like <strong>Oleg Deripaska<\/strong>, it doesn\u2019t look like Manafort\u2019s defense has an <em>Oleg<\/em> to stand on.<\/p>\n<p>In fact the only option that was left to Manafort&#8217;s legal beagles was to try and impeach <strong>Rick Gates&#8217;<\/strong> credibility on the grounds that no jury could possibly trust anyone who was willing to work for a proven tax-cheating, lying crook like Manafort.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be left out of the <em>Legal Odds &amp; Ends<\/em>, <strong><em>Rudy Giuliani<\/em><\/strong> is trying to dictate the terms that <strong>Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller<\/strong> must follow in even questioning <strong><em>Twitler<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Rudy is proposing absolutely ridiculous terms like <em>\u201cNo discussion dealing with collusion\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cNo discussion dealing with obstruction of justice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For those of us old enough to remember <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeffrey_Dahmer\"><strong>Jeffrey Dahmer<\/strong> <\/a>(he was convicted of multiple rapes ad murders <span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: transparent; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">of his young male victims, <\/span>and freezing them for cannibalism later on) that would be like Dahmer\u2019s lawyers telling the prosecutor: <em>&#8220;We won\u2019t allow any questions about the body parts in our client&#8217;s freezer.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Turns out Dahmer did have <strong><em>Ben &amp; Jerry<\/em><\/strong> in his freezer.\u00a0 The problem was, it wasn\u2019t ice cream.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>HOLY COW!<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Have you <em>herd<\/em> where even some <strong><em>Bovine Deputies<\/em><\/strong> wanted to <em>wrangle<\/em> their way into Legal Odds &amp; Ends by <em>corralling<\/em> a suspected car thief?\u00a0 You might think it\u2019s a <em>bunch of bull<\/em> \u2013 but it\u2019s true!\u00a0 Have I ever <em>steered<\/em> you wrong?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"695\" height=\"391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4aOthrjybI0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I found the story <em>udderly amoosing<\/em>.\u00a0 It looks like there was a real <em>beef<\/em> between them and the suspect.\u00a0 They quickly took <em>stock<\/em> of the situation, and even though the <em>steaks<\/em> were high, they got the job done. \u00a0 Seems pretty clear they wanted to <em>tan her hide<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>(Have I <em>milked<\/em> this one for all it\u2019s worth?\u00a0 I hope you don\u2019t think I <em>butchered<\/em> too many of the puns.\u00a0 And if it\u2019s late when you read this and it\u2019s <em>pasture<\/em> bedtime \u2013 I wish you pleasant dreams.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the Manafort trial appears to be winding down I thought it would be fun to focus on some \u201cLegal Odds &amp;
