Perhaps that\u2019s what makes this story so surprising: less than 24 hours after George Gomez was beaten to a pulp near his New Orleans home, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/article\/news\/crime\/two-nopd-officers-arrested-after-fight-with-man-in-mid-city\/289-577001810\" target=\"_blank\">the cops responsible found themselves in handcuffs\u2014and out of a job<\/a><\/font><\/font><\/span><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font color=\"#0066cc\" face=\"Arial\"><\/font><\/span><\/font><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%; color: \"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\" color=\"#3c3736\">.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 7pt; font-family: ; margin-top: 0pt; color: ; line-height: normal\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font color=\"#3c3736\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Gomez, 36, tells <\/font><\/span><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><em>The Advocate\u2019s <\/em><\/span><\/font><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Ramon Antonio Vargas that he encountered John Galman, 26, and Spencer Sutton, 24, at the Mid-City Yacht Club early Tuesday morning. Turns out the off-duty cops didn\u2019t care for Gomez\u2019s sartorial choices.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 7pt; font-family: ; margin-top: 7pt; color: ; margin-left: 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt; background-color: #f7f7f7\" color=\"#3c3736\">Gomez said [&#8230;] <strong>one said he didn&#8217;t like the military camouflage shirt and pants being worn by Gomez<\/strong>, who is Hispanic.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 7pt; font-family: ; margin-top: 0pt; color: ; margin-left: 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt; background-color: #f7f7f7\" color=\"#3c3736\">&quot;He asked me if I was American. I told him yes, and he got mad because he said I was fake,&quot; said Gomez, who described himself as a U.S. native who was raised in Honduras before returning to live in New Orleans.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 7pt; font-family: ; margin-top: 0pt; color: ; margin-left: 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt; background-color: #f7f7f7\" color=\"#3c3736\">Gomez, who speaks Spanish as well as English with an accent, also described being asked if he served in the military.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; color: ; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt; background-color: #f7f7f7\" color=\"#3c3736\">Gomez said he did serve, including with the Louisiana National Guard, but the man who took issue with his clothing wasn&#8217;t satisfied with any of his answers.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: ; color: ; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; line-height: normal\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\" color=\"#3c3736\">&#160;<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 7pt; font-family: ; margin-top: 0pt; color: ; line-height: normal\"><span style=\"background-image: none; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: 0% 0%\"><font face=\"Arial\"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\" color=\"#3c3736\">Gomez claims he then walked to his home nearby, and got in his truck, only to encounter Galman and Sutton, who blocked his vehicle and confronted him.
