But he is running in November to be the Attorney General of the State. I received an email from him which caused me to drop my jaw &#8211; not that I didn&#8217;t know that certain feminine products are taxed by many states on the grounds thay they are luxuries; I was aware of that. (Sean may have had to look it up for this, but he knows now.) The whole thing is just so petty that I think it needs to be shared as necessary, up to November and likely beyond.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bustle.com\/p\/sean-patrick-maloney-bought-tampons-for-his-office-the-response-he-got-inspired-a-new-fight-9643889\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bustle dot com picked up the story<\/a>, as did a couple of other outlets, but I wouldn&#8217;t call it wide exposure at this point. I am furnishing the link, though I&#8217;ll mostly quote the email &#8211; which is a trifle less organized, because he is PISSED OFF.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>The Republican leadership in Congress just PUNISHED my office for buying tampons for our staff and visiting constituents, Joanne.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Yes, you read that correctly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Last week, I made the \u201cmistake\u201d of including feminine hygiene products in my office\u2019s purchases &#8212; along with tissues, hand sanitizer, and first-aid supplies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And now, the GOP is DEMANDING that I personally write a check to reimburse the $37.16 we spent on feminine hygiene products, because in their own words, \u201ctampons are NOT office supplies\u201d. <strong>They think they\u2019re a luxury.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Joanne, this incident says everything you need to know about how the Republican Party views women.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I\u2019m running to be New York\u2019s next Democratic Attorney General because we must fight back against this type of discrimination our mothers, sisters, and daughters continue to face everyday.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-32939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Sean-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Sean-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Sean-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Sean.jpg 534w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In 2016, the State of New York stopped taxing women\u2019s periods by ending its discriminatory \u2018tampon tax.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Because Joanne, women shouldn\u2019t be punished for simply being women.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Women\u2019s rights aren\u2019t a matter of convenience &#8212; they\u2019re a matter of equal justice under the law.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>But the GOP is hanging on to their aging, sexist policies that are clearly discriminatory towards women.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At a time when the U.S. Supreme Court could be shaped in Donald Trump\u2019s image for a lifetime, we need to elect leaders who won\u2019t hesitate to take down these blatantly sexist policies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Let\u2019s put an end to these ludicrous, sexist policies, Joanne.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sean Maloney for New York<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-Sean Patrick Maloney<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Candidate for New York Attorney General<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>SMDH.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t put links to donation sites in these posts; though of course they are not hard to find, I want to be reportorial raather than pushy.<\/p>\n<p>Bustle did point out a couple of things Sean left out, such as the roughly $5.9 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BILLION<\/span><\/strong> that women in the US need to spend each year on sanitary supplies. (Now you know why many women do the happy dance when they reach the age of menopause. But I assure you, and our younger sisters, that we haven&#8217;t forgotten what it was like.) Oh, and the fact that the House Administration Committee claims he is lying. (I know who I would and wouldn&#8217;t believe, and I&#8217;ll bet you do too.) And the fact that Sean wrote his personal check to the committee &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/repseanmaloney\/status\/1012409246112198656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">while making the Twitter video he posted to publicize the insanity<\/a> &#8211; sorry, that&#8217;s insanitea.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure I don&#8217;t need to point out that the next Attorney General of New York will inherit any and all cases regarding Donald J. Trump, his family, and his staff, and the breach by any of them by any laws of the State of New York.
