<\/a><\/p>\nCaptivated by the urban Peregrine falcon, I immediately knew what city she lived in.<\/p>\n
But I wondered if I could figure out what building it was taken from along with the address, the apartment number and who lived there.<\/p>\n
And I did!<\/p>\n
So put on your deerstalker hat and do your best Sherlock Holmes<\/strong> imitation to see how many you can check off:<\/p>\n City:<\/p>\n Building:<\/p>\n Address:<\/p>\n Apartment Number:<\/p>\n Owner:<\/p>\n BONUS: Any other tidbits pertaining to THIS peregrine falcon.<\/p>\n And if no one has figured it out by the end of the day, I’ll give a Hint: the name of the photographer.<\/p>\n Good luck!<\/p>\n BONUS ADDITION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n [HEADS UP NOTE: Take Hints where you can find them]<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n I declare<\/em><\/span>, Joanne has independently<\/em><\/span> hit on the right track!<\/p>\n Kansas City is a nice size city – but we don’t have a skyline like that.\u00a0 This is the KCMO downtown skyline looking north from the Liberty Memorial:<\/p>\n And the downtown skyline looking south:<\/p>\n Panorama photo of downtown Kansas City, Missouri skyline, taken from Chouteau Bridge.<\/p><\/div>\n But the biggest hint is focusing on the huge, black building<\/em><\/span> in the background that I’ve highlighted here:<\/p>\n If you look closely, you’ll noticed that it tapers<\/em><\/span> the higher it goes.\u00a0 And that’s your huge Hint!<\/p>\n Well, at least I<\/em> had fun with it – but probably won’t be doing another one of these for a long time.<\/p>\n ANSWER:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n OK – some of the hints were quite obtuse.\u00a0 I had hoped the “declare independently” might get someone to the “Declaration of Independence”<\/em> which might lead you to “John Hancock”<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 And anyone with a passing knowledge of Chicago knows the Hancock Center.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.aviewoncities.com\/gallery\/showpicture.htm?key=kveus4019<\/a><\/p>\n Joanne was definitely heading in the right direction when she said it probably is a city I was familiar with.\u00a0 As I’ve mentioned before, I went to medical school in Chicago.\u00a0 The first year I lived in the dorm and my window had an unobstructed view of the Hancock building – so it’s an old friend to me.<\/p>\n I tried to help by pointing out the building and the noting that it’s sides’ taper.\u00a0 And you can see that in the above photo.<\/p>\n But to get to the location I just Googled [“peregrine falcon” Chicago]<\/strong><\/em> – voila, right there on the front page is our photo!<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%22peregrine+falcon%22+chicago&ie=&oe=<\/a><\/p>\n So I clicked on the photo and it got me here:<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%22peregrine+falcon%22+chicago&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=bZXLQ45XASsoqM%253A%252CsH8Veo5Y1tX8iM%252C_&usg=__AHBK0y0lQKT2r0b7Y6hoPNri1rA%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjKwKed95HbAhUGz2MKHUlYCOsQ9QEIXTAE#imgrc=bZXLQ45XASsoqM:<\/a><\/p>\n So I clicked on the “Visit”<\/strong><\/em> option, and it took me to the Audubon<\/strong><\/em> article about her:<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/news\/peregrines-and-photographer-bunk-out-chicago-mans-apartment<\/a><\/p>\n And reading the article you learn that the falcon had commandeered an empty flower box on the 28th floor of Dacey Arashiba\u2019s<\/strong> condo balcony.<\/p>\n So plugging in\u00a0Dacey Arashiba\u2019s<\/strong> name into an excellent, dedicated person search engine, you can see she lives on Belmont Ave.\u00a0 But that’s probably enough doxing on my part.\u00a0 You can connect the rest of the dots on your own if you want an exact address.<\/p>\n But the Audubon story<\/strong><\/em> is definitely worth a read!\u00a0 It tells about how Linda<\/strong> and Steve<\/strong> (the names Darcy gave the Peregrines) came to the condo balcony, and sadly lost their first clutch of three eggs.\u00a0 But amazingly returned the next year to the same balcony and had another clutched that hatched!<\/p>\n And how an award-winning photographer in The Netherlands found out about the falcons and came to America to photograph them. \u00a0And the photos are quite interesting!<\/p>\n So for me, at least, it was a worthwhile sleuthing search.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" This is a quickie because I’m heading out the door to a morning doctor appointment.\u00a0 But this is what greeted me for my daily computer wallpaper: Captivated by the urban Peregrine falcon, I immediately knew what city she lived in.
