{"id":3116,"date":"2010-10-15T01:57:02","date_gmt":"2010-10-15T08:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3116"},"modified":"2010-10-15T01:57:02","modified_gmt":"2010-10-15T08:57:02","slug":"outsourcing-and-the-us-chamber-of-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/15\/outsourcing-and-the-us-chamber-of-corruption\/","title":{"rendered":"Outsourcing and the US Chamber of Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">You know that the US Chamber of Commerce is funding attack ads, lots of them, against Democrats.&#160; Almost all blame Democrats for the job losses caused by Republican policies.&#160; The irony here is the the Chamber is a front line proponent of outsourcing US jobs, and they\u2019re getting the ad money from the corporations that outsource jobs and the foreign companies and countries that are benefiting from the outsourcing.&#160; I have an idea to combat this and an action plan.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 2px 0px 5px 10px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"15Donahue\" border=\"0\" alt=\"15Donahue\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/15Donahue.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"310\" \/> A top Democrat on Tuesday said <strong>the U.S. Chamber of Commerce\u2019s \u201cagenda\u201d is to send U.S. jobs overseas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chamber has an agenda, and it\u2019s aimed at promoting outsourcing of American jobs, and spending money against those who stood against them,\u201d said Jon Vogel, executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).<\/p>\n<p>Vogel made the comment at a forum hosted by National Journal, which included his Republican counterpart, Guy Harrison, executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Upon hearing Vogel\u2019s comment, Harrison pounced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait, wait, wait, wait. The Chamber\u2019s agenda is outsourcing U.S. jobs. The U.S Chamber of Commerce? I just want to make sure,\u201d Harrison said.<\/p>\n<p>Vogel and Harrison talked back and forth for a moment as the audience tittered. Vogel made reference to comments by the Chamber\u2019s chief executive, Tom Donohue. A DCCC spokesman later sent out a list of comments by Donohue on the topic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>There are legitimate values in outsourcing<\/strong>,\u201d Donohue <a href=\"http:\/\/transcripts.cnn.com\/TRANSCRIPTS\/0402\/10\/ldt.00.html\" target=\"_blank\">said in 2004<\/a>, \u201cto gain technical experience and benefit we don\u2019t have here, to lower the price of products, which means more and more of them are brought into the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the bottom line is that we outsource very few jobs in relation to the size of our economy,\u201d Donohue said. \u201cAmerican companies employ 140 million Americans \u2026 The outsourcing deal over three or four or five years and the two or three sets of numbers are only going to be, you know, maybe two, maybe three million jobs, maybe four.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chamber also recently opposed legislation called the \u201cCreating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opencongress.org\/bill\/111-s3816\/show\" target=\"_blank\">OpenCongress.org<\/a>, the bill \u201cwould give companies a two-year payroll tax holiday, reducing the amount of Social Security taxes they would have to pay, for new employees who replace workers doing similar jobs overseas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also revokes provisions of the tax code that Democrats say encourage companies to outsource their work force.\u201d\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2010\/10\/12\/top-democrat-says-u-s-chamber-agenda-is-outsourcing-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Caller<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">As expected, Rachel Maddow was all over the story.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"245\" id=\"msnbc4173b8\" classid=\"clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000\" target=\"_blank\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/32545640\" \/><param name=\"FlashVars\" value=\"launch=39679326^10^588230&amp;width=420&amp;height=245\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><embed name=\"msnbc4173b8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/32545640\" width=\"420\" height=\"245\" FlashVars=\"launch=39679326^10^588230&amp;width=420&amp;height=245\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" wmode=\"transparent\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" pluginspage=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/shockwave\/download\/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash\"><\/embed><\/object><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The problem here is that too many voters are not yet informed of the vicious cycle in play here.&#160; We have to change that.&#160; Please watch for Chamber attack ads where you live.&#160; When you see one, contact everyone you know.&#160; Ask them if they have seen the ad, and tell them about it, if they have not.&#160; Explain to them that, while the Chamber is attacking the Democrat for the job losses there, they are funding the ads with secret money from both the corporations who are sending the jobs overseas and from the foreign countries and corporations that are getting the jobs.&#160;
