{"id":30528,"date":"2017-12-02T08:42:53","date_gmt":"2017-12-02T16:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=30528"},"modified":"2017-12-03T10:47:51","modified_gmt":"2017-12-03T18:47:51","slug":"everyday-erinyes-103","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/12\/02\/everyday-erinyes-103\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyday Erinyes #103"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.\u00a0 These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.\u00a0 Even though there are many more which I can&#8217;t include.\u00a0 As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Alecto<\/span><\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Megaera<\/strong><\/span>, and <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tisiphone<\/span><\/strong>. These roughly translate as &#8220;unceasing,&#8221; &#8220;grudging,&#8221; and &#8220;vengeful destruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You may remember from last August a small protest in a little place called Charlottesville, VA.\u00a0 And that a car ran into a group of unarmed peaceful protesters, injuring 19, and killing one &#8211; Heather Heyer.\u00a0 You may even remember that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/12\/ex-cop-said-he-loved-seeing-neo-nazi-kill-people-and-police-union-is-fighting-to-get-him-back-on-the-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comment made on Facebook<\/a> about a news story at the time went viral because it was so ugly.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/car-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/car-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/car-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/car.jpg 582w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cHahahaha love this, maybe people shouldn\u2019t block roads,\u201d Conrad Lariviere commented on a news story noting \u201cone dead, 19 injured.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If so, you&#8217;ll be happy to know that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2017\/12\/springfield_police_fire_office.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Officer Lariviere has been fired<\/a> from the Springfield (MA) Police Department.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt was determined that Officer Lariviere impaired the operation of the Springfield Police Department or its employees and discredited the department,\u2019 Commissioner [John] Barbieri explained.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The mayor of Springfield agreed.\u00a0 \u201cI stand by and agree with Commissioner Barbieri\u2019s decision to fire Officer Conrad Lariviere over his insensitive and uncalled for Facebook remarks,\u201d Mayor Domenic Sarno stated.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But you&#8217;ll likely be less happy when you hear that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2017\/12\/springfield_police_union_objec.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the police union wants him reinstated<\/a>.\u00a0 And one City Councilor agrees with the union.\u00a0 The union statement includes \u201cHis point was that such disorderly behavior has serious consequences, and both sides of the dispute bore responsible for the disruptions,\u201d which sounds to me sort of like &#8220;His point was that no matter how peaceful you are, if someone doesn&#8217;t agree with you, it&#8217;s open season on you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The City Councilor has a different viewpoint.\u00a0 His beef is that there is another office on the force who deserves to be fired even more, but hasn&#8217;t.\u00a0 And, actually, he is right.\u00a0 The problem is, with this other officer, the city&#8217;s hands are tied.\u00a0 The union contract includes what is essentially a 90-day statute of limitations, and this officer&#8217;s misdeeds were not discovered within that time period.\u00a0 So the Department is forbidden by the contract from taking action, other than suspending him for 60 days and demoting him to the records department.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Alecto<\/span><\/strong>, what I think is that, when the union contract comes up for renewal (which I hope is soon), the Department needs a tougher and better negotiator.\u00a0 And smarter.\u00a0 Better able to foresee contingencies.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Suleiman is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/12\/texas-teacher-calls-police-on-6-year-old-muslim-with-down-syndrome-after-accusing-him-of-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">six-year-old boy who carries Down syndrome 21<\/a>.\u00a0 He is sufficiently developmentally disabled that he is not able to speak.\u00a0 Yet, a substitute teacher called the police and filed a report that the child is a terrorist, because he kept repeating the words &#8220;Allah&#8221; and &#8220;boom boom boom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-30527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/mohammed-300x161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/mohammed-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/mohammed-150x81.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/mohammed-768x413.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/mohammed.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>If you listen to the video on the site, you may also gather the teacher said the child &#8220;sexually harassed&#8221; her.\u00a0 Right.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Department is no longer investigating the matter of the report.\u00a0 I personally would have thought that filing a false police report was a crime and that they ought to be gathering information to charge the teacher, but I do realize that some things are challenging to get legal evidence for.<\/p>\n<p>Child Protective Services are also still investigating\u00a0 I hope that means they are investigating the teacher, who is obviously so dangerous she should not be around any children ever, and not the child&#8217;s family.\u00a0 But one never knows.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Megaera<\/span><\/strong>, if no one is investigating the teacher, maybe you can.\u00a0 And, if they are, maybe you can help.<\/p>\n<p>There are two other incidents I want to give some attention to without a lot of detail.\u00a0 The first &#8211; which comes with a strong <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>TRIGGER WARNING<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; is that of the little girl, aged 10 years, who was bullied to the point <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/11\/10-year-old-hangs-herself-after-confronting-bully-as-other-kids-mocked-her-on-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that she hanged herself<\/a>.\u00a0 A few more details are available, but some are also missing.\u00a0 It happened in Colorado, in Aurora, and her name was Ashawnty Davis and she was adorable.<\/p>\n<p>The second incident &#8211; well here&#8217;s the title:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/12\/alt-righter-insists-his-pepe-the-frog-hot-sauce-isnt-racist-its-meant-to-mock-people-with-autism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alt-righter insists his \u2018Pepe the Frog\u2019 hot sauce isn\u2019t racist \u2014 it\u2019s meant to mock people with autism<\/a>.\u00a0 And, you know, that&#8217;s exactly what he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cSo it was originally intended to be a chicken-tendie sauce, like, you know, \u2018These autistic kids go crazy about chicken tendies.&#8217;\u00a0 So it\u2019s a spicy tendie sauce.
