{"id":3019,"date":"2010-10-02T23:06:45","date_gmt":"2010-10-03T06:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=3019"},"modified":"2010-10-02T23:08:12","modified_gmt":"2010-10-03T06:08:12","slug":"protect-womens-rights-from-republican-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/02\/protect-womens-rights-from-republican-rape\/","title":{"rendered":"Protect Women&rsquo;s Rights from Republican Rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As full disclosure, I do not believe in abortion as birth control.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s a damn lousy choice.\u00a0 In my ideal world, there would be no abortion.\u00a0 However, we do not live in my ideal world.\u00a0 Sometimes through making dysfunctional choices, and sometimes through circumstances beyond their control, women find themselves in situations where an abortion is the best choice among the available choices that are even lousier.\u00a0 A woman pregnant with a rapist\u2019s child is such a situation.\u00a0 But a significant set of the Republican party does not see it that way at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 2px 10px 5px 0px; display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"3prochoice\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/3prochoice.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"3prochoice\" width=\"400\" height=\"264\" align=\"left\" \/> The GOP has always pandered to the right-wing base by promising to strip women of the right to control their own bodies<\/strong>. In the interest of not alienating sane people though, many Republican lawmakers make an exception in cases of incest and rape, and when a mother&#8217;s life is in danger.<\/p>\n<p>But a group of ultra-conservative Republican Senate candidates &#8212; recently propelled to victory in the primaries by Tea Party groups who claim to oppose government intrusion into people&#8217;s lives &#8212; <strong>want the government to force women to carry fetuses to term, even in cases of incest or rape<\/strong>. Rachel Maddow, in her show on Wednesday night, called this group the &#8220;Bear Your Rapist&#8217;s Baby Caucus.&#8221; According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2010\/09\/78-gop-candidates-force-rapists-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raw Story<\/a>, at least 78 GOP candidates for the House would qualify for this extreme voting bloc.<\/p>\n<p>Here are five freedom lovers who think they should get to decide what a rape victim does with her body:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Rand Paul (Kentucky)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Christine O&#8217;Donnell (Delaware)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Sharron Angle (Nevada)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Ken Buck (Colorado)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Joe Miller (Alaska)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;In addition to all anti-abortion extremists running for Senate on the GOP ticket, a multitude of House candidates also want abortion outlawed even if the pregnancy is the result of incest or rape.
