{"id":30068,"date":"2017-11-04T10:40:53","date_gmt":"2017-11-04T17:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=30068"},"modified":"2017-11-04T12:39:06","modified_gmt":"2017-11-04T19:39:06","slug":"everyday-erinyes-99","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/11\/04\/everyday-erinyes-99\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyday Erinyes #99"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.\u00a0 These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.\u00a0 Even though there are many more which I can&#8217;t include.\u00a0 As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Alecto<\/strong><\/span>, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Megaera<\/span><\/strong>, and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Tisiphone<\/strong><\/span>. These roughly translate as &#8220;unceasing,&#8221; &#8220;grudging,&#8221; and &#8220;vengeful destruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I think I may be close to breaking the code as to how people who are obviously racist can say things like &#8220;I&#8217;m absolutely not racist in the very least,&#8221; and appear to believe it.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Briggs-300x161.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Briggs-300x161.png 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Briggs-150x81.png 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Briggs-768x413.png 768w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Briggs.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s kind of like the Dunning-Kruger effect.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t really understand what &#8220;racist&#8221; means, but they know it&#8217;s something bad.\u00a0 So they think, &#8220;I&#8217;m a good person, so I can&#8217;t possibly be racist, because then I&#8217;d be a bad person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Case in point:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/11\/jew-bashing-georgia-candidate-says-at-least-nazis-contributed-to-us-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Briggs, candidate for City Council<\/a> in Suwanee, Georgia.\u00a0 Technically his tweets have been &#8220;anti-semitic&#8221; rather that &#8220;racist,&#8221; but that doesn&#8217;t differentiate the sentiments, only the target group.\u00a0 Most people who are the one are also the other.\u00a0 Probably misogynist, too.\u00a0 Here are some:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>[A]t least the Nazis assimilated and contributed to US society.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Zionists in Israel far worse than anything described in Mein Kampf. Get over it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>[G]et the Jews out of the White House and out of POTUS\u2019 ear.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I particularly note the statement that Nazis have &#8220;assimilated and contributed to US society&#8221; and its implication that Jews have not.\u00a0 Mr. Briggs, Jews have assimilated so well into US society that you probably have no idea how mant contributions they have made because you don&#8217;t recognize the contributrs as Jews.\u00a0 Nazis, on the other hand, have mostly contributed bigotry and hate.\u00a0 Well, of course, no one is useless.\u00a0 They can always serve as horrible examples.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s not what Mr. Briggs had in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Briggs thinks that his political opponents are &#8220;digging up dirt on him to distract from their own failures.&#8221;\u00a0 Well, distractions are not unknown in politics.\u00a0 But in this case, the &#8220;dirt&#8221; that they are &#8220;digging up&#8221; is absolutely real.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Megaera<\/span><\/strong>, maybe you can do some explaining to him.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Connecticut &#8211; oh, by the way, if you are eating right now, or just finished eating, or about to eat, you may want to skip this section until later.\u00a0 Seriously.\u00a0 Now, where was I?\u00a0 Oh, yes, in Connecticut.\u00a0 At the University of Hartford.\u00a0 Where there was a &#8211; ahem.<\/p>\n<p>She also &#8220;spit &#8230; in her coconut oil, put &#8230; moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubb[ed] used tampons on her backpack, &#8230; and so much more&#8230;.&#8221;\u00a0 all in order to get the woman she called &#8220;Jamaican Barbie&#8221; to move out of the room.<\/p>\n<p>The victim. whose name BTW is Jasmine, was really only aware of the perp turning off the lights when she left and Jasmine was still in the room.\u00a0 This did make her feel unwelcome.\u00a0 She had no idea the perp was doing all this until it got bragged about on Instagram.\u00a0 She had had &#8220;extreme throat pain&#8221; but did not, and does not, know what might have caused it.\u00a0 (Personally I think it might have been the spit, which clearly must have contained snake venom.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.courant.com\/breaking-news\/hc-br-west-hartford-student-arrest-20171101-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The perp has been arraigned<\/a> on charges of breach of peace and criminal mischief, and, if the West Hartford police get their way, a charge of intimidation based on bigotry or bias.\u00a0 She was also ordered to stay away from the college campus (reasonable, since she&#8217;s been expelled.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tisiphone<\/span><\/strong>, this does sound like one for you.<\/p>\n<p>Now, from the &#8220;bad news is good news&#8221;
