{"id":29990,"date":"2017-10-24T12:49:46","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T19:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=29990"},"modified":"2017-10-24T12:49:46","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T19:49:46","slug":"family-farms-not-factory-farms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/10\/24\/family-farms-not-factory-farms\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Farms Not Factory Farms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">To be completely honest from the outset, I like most cats, am a carnivore, and I know of no way to eat meat without killing it first.&#160; But I believe that food animals should be raised, treated, and killed humanely on family farms.&#160; Beyond violating animal rights, factory farms threaten human health and the environment.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"1024factory-farming\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"1024factory-farming\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/1024factory-farming.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The world desperately needs joined-up action on industrial farming if it is to avoid catastrophic impacts on life on earth<\/strong>, according to the head of one of the world&#8217;s most highly regarded animal campaign groups.<\/p>\n<p>Philip Lymbery, chief executive of Compassion in World Farming (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciwf.org.uk\/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8NXTiNjW1gIVb7ftCh0GtwonEAAYASAAEgIt3fD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\">CIWF<\/a>) and the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2014\/feb\/02\/farmageddon-philip-lymber-review-farming\" target=\"_blank\">Farmageddon<\/a> and more recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2017\/jun\/18\/dead-zone-philip-lymbery-review-food-farming\" target=\"_blank\">Deadzone<\/a>, said:<\/p>\n<p><em>Every day there is a new confirmation of how destructive, inefficient, wasteful, cruel and unhealthy the industrial agriculture machine is. We need a total rethink of our food and farming systems before it&#8217;s too late.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>His comments came on the eve of Compassion&#8217;s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.extinctionconference.com\/events\/compassion-in-world-farming-extinction-and-livestock-conference\/event-summary-4fb97cae0f154b88837d534eefb7a171.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Livestock and Extinction<\/a> conference in London, which brought together scientists, campaigners, U.N. representatives and multinational food corporations including Compass, Tesco and McDonald&#8217;s. The conference aims to bring together a wide range of voices and connect up the many impacts that factory farming has on our planet. <\/p>\n<p>The conference came against a backdrop of alarming expos\u00e9s of industrial farming.
