{"id":29903,"date":"2017-10-21T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-10-21T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=29903"},"modified":"2017-10-21T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-10-21T16:00:00","slug":"everyday-erinyes-97","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/10\/21\/everyday-erinyes-97\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyday Erinyes #97"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.\u00a0 These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.\u00a0 Even though there are many more which I can&#8217;t include.\u00a0 As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Alecto<\/strong><\/span>, <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Megaera<\/span><\/strong>, and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Tisiphone<\/strong><\/span>. These roughly translate as &#8220;unceasing,&#8221; &#8220;grudging,&#8221; and &#8220;vengeful destruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a followup to the murder of Philando Castile, the &#8220;Mr. Phil&#8221; who, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/2017\/06\/24\/everyday-erinyes-80\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the nutrition services supervisor<\/a> at J.J. Hill Montessori School, was known for using his own funds to pay for students&#8217; lunches when someone had to, there is now a fund in his memory.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2017\/10\/17\/1707472\/-A-student-lunch-fund-in-Philando-Castile-s-name-raises-enough-to-wipe-out-lunch-debt-for-a-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philando Feeds The Children Fund<\/a> was started by Pam Fergus, a local community college professor who was inspired by stories of Castile having helped pay for student\u2019s lunches with his own money.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-29942\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Philando-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Philando-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Philando-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Philando-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Philando.jpg 915w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe just had this little idea that we were going to help do Mr. Phil\u2019s job and make sure you guys have good lunch to eat every day,\u201d Fergus told students, according to a WCCO report.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In total, more than 2000 donors helped the fund raise over $72,000 \u2014 well above the initial $5,000 goal \u2014 which was presented to officials at [J.J. Hill Montessori School where Castile worked] on Friday by Castile\u2019s mother Valerie.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s enough money to cover student lunch debt thoughout all of St. Paul for an entire year.<\/p>\n<p>Click through for information on a couple of other memorials for Mr. Phil.\u00a0 And here&#8217;s an unrelated but similar project &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>When Sunshine emptied her piggy bank on the floor, her grandmother wasn&#8217;t surprised, but she was when Sunshine started putting baggies of the coins into her school backpack.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-29943\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sunshine-300x268.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sunshine-300x268.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sunshine-150x134.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sunshine.jpg 564w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;I&#8217;m going to take it for milk money. I&#8217;m taking it for my friend Layla,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;She doesn&#8217;t get milk \u2014 her mom doesn&#8217;t have milk money and I do.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Grandma Jackie Oelfke later helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2017\/10\/18\/1707834\/-Five-year-old-helps-pay-for-schoolmate-s-milk-and-then-starts-a-campaign-that-raises-1-000s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunshine start a GoFundMe page<\/a>, hoping to raise maybe $700 towards needed milk money.\u00a0 It turned into almost $8500 at last report.\u00a0 Click through to this story for a Daily Kos petition on school lunches.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Alecto,<\/strong><\/span> maybe you could help these folks to keep all of their good efforts unceasing.<\/p>\n<p>Now, if only we could find out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewsminute.com\/article\/12-days-us-police-still-hunt-sherin-mathews-use-drones-search-op-70197\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what happened to Sherin Mathews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The three-year-old disappeared around 3:00 a.m. on October 7 from her home in Richardson, TX.\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 Her father says, as punishment for not drinking milk, he sent her outside to stand by a tree.\u00a0 Fifteen minutes later, he noticed she was missing.\u00a0 He says.\u00a0 (Did I mention there are coyotes in the area?)<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-29940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/coyote-girl-247x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/coyote-girl-247x300.jpg 247w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/coyote-girl-123x150.jpg 123w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/coyote-girl.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After sunrise, he reported the disappearance. He was arrested on child abandonment and endangerment charges the same day Sherin went missing but has since been released on bond.\u00a0 Apparently the adults have stopped cooperating with the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>But at some point during the first week after her disappearance, the police learned that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2017\/10\/19\/police-seized-washer-dryer-and-other-items-from-missing-texas-girls-home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">family&#8217;s SUV had been driven out around 4:00 a.m. that morning and returned within an hour<\/a>.\u00a0 Her father had said he was doing laundry.<\/p>\n<p>Sherin is adopted.\u00a0 The couple also have a biological child, who was immediately placed into foster care.\u00a0 She is Indian &#8211; not Native American, Indian &#8211; and the Consul General of India in Houston is following the case closely.\u00a0 So is the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/nri\/us-canada-news\/no-breakthrough-yet-in-tracing-missing-3-year-old-indian-girl-in-us\/articleshow\/61154819.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of India<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A number of items have been removed from the home by investigators, one being the GPS from the SUV.\u00a0 Even if directions were not plugged in, the investigators believe they will be able to determine where the vehicle went, and, in particular where it may have stopped.<\/p>\n<p>However, as I am typing this, she has not been found.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Tisiphone<\/strong><\/span>, could you help?\u00a0 She is said to weigh only 22 pounds (10 kg), and to have an eating disorder and a communication disorder.\u00a0 But none of that makes her disposable.<\/p>\n<p>And now, as I type, I have the radio on to\u00a0a show about movie scores, and the score currently being played is the one to <strong>&#8220;Get Out.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0 How ironic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2017\/10\/19\/white-ex-tulsa-police-officer-convicted-of-fatally-shooting-daughters-black-boyfriend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I have a first to share &#8211; although not first enough for my taste<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A white police officer was found guilty, having been tried on a first degree murder charge, of killing a black man.<\/p>\n<p>Only he is no longer a police officer.\u00a0 Even at the time he was off duty, and he retired shortly after the incident.\u00a0 And although the charge was first degree murder, he was not convicted of that, but of first degree manslaughter.\u00a0 And to get that much took four trials &#8211; there were three prior mistrials.\u00a0 And did I mention the young black man was his daughter&#8217;s boy friend?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-29941\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kepler-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kepler-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kepler-150x110.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kepler.jpg 585w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The jury recommended fifteen years in prison for Shannnon Kepler.\u00a0 We will see.\u00a0 This was in Tulsa, Oklahoma.\u00a0 Well, an Oklahoma City jury convicted Daniel Holtzclaw, and the judge imposed the recommended sentence, but he is appealing vigorously.\u00a0 A Tulsa judge may do the same, although 15 years to me seems like a bad joke after what appears to have been a stalking.<\/p>\n<p>The daughter, Lisa, had been living in a homeless shelter &#8220;on and off&#8221; since her parents &#8220;kicked her out.&#8221;\u00a0 A circumstance which leads me to doubt whether &#8220;concern for his daughter&#8217;s safety&#8221; was even a miniscule factor in his actions.\u00a0 They sound more like control to me.\u00a0 He had stalked his daughter through Facebook to learn she was dating the victim, Jeremey Lake.\u00a0 He had stalked Lake through the police department files and found an old (juvenile) incident.\u00a0 He stalked the couple by driving near Lake&#8217;s address.\u00a0 When the two walked nearby, and Kepler asked what she was doing there, she walked away.\u00a0 Lake then attempted to introduce himself and, per his aunt, to extend a hand in friendship, when Kepler shot him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Kepler then shot Lake, he later admitted, claiming that he thought he saw him reach for a gun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe\u2019s bringing it, I\u2019m bringing it,\u201d Kepler told the courtroom on Wednesday, according to the AP. \u201cIt was either him or me. I\u2019m not going to stand there and get shot.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am not the only person who sees stalking here.\u00a0 The prosecutors alleged in their closing arguments that Kepler &#8220;hunted&#8221; Lake down.\u00a0 And there is no argument<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>that Kepler left the scene without calling 911 or attempting to giving medical attention to Lake, the Tulsa World reported.
