{"id":28940,"date":"2017-08-15T02:57:29","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T09:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=28940"},"modified":"2017-08-15T10:41:19","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T17:41:19","slug":"can-you-smell-trumps-fear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/08\/15\/can-you-smell-trumps-fear\/","title":{"rendered":"Can you smell Trump&#8217;s fear?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We have not heard a lot about Robert Mueller&#8217;s investigation into &#8220;Russia-gate&#8221; or whatever one chooses to call Trump and the Trump campaign&#8217;s association with Russia in the past few days.\u00a0 Trump&#8217;s response, or better put, a lack of appropriate response, to the Charlottesville tragedy has taken over.\u00a0 Is his &#8220;response&#8221; to the Charlottesville tragedy meant as a distraction from Mueller&#8217;s investigation?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/news-amp-politics\/watch-rachel-maddow-digs-trumps-shady-financial-past\"><strong>AlterNet<\/strong><\/a><\/span> &#8212;\u00a0MSNBC&#8217;s Rachel Maddow spent the opening of her Friday show doing a deep dive into\u00a0the &#8220;extraordinary flim-flammery&#8221; of President Donald Trump&#8217;s past financial dealings.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, the president once short-changed New York City to the tune of $2.8 million in a deal designed to avoid paying upwards of $150 million in property taxes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Rachel Maddow presents a very interesting backstory as to a very possible motivation for why Trump did not want to release his tax returns like previous presidential candidates have done.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/iframe%20src='http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_aflimflam_170811'%20height='500'%20width='635'%20scrolling='no'%20border='no'%20\/iframe\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_aflimflam_170811\" width=\"635\" height=\"500\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The second video explores the issue with journalist David Cay Johnston founder of DCReports.org .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/iframe%20src='http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_bjohnston_170811'%20height='500'%20width='635'%20scrolling='no'%20border='no'%20\/iframe\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_bjohnston_170811\" width=\"635\" height=\"500\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I think both Rachel and David Cay Johnston make a very good argument as to why Trump does not want his financial records available for scrutiny by Mueller or anyone else for that matter.\u00a0 And what about Trump&#8217;s ability to pardon himself or anyone else involved in criminal dealings with Russia or Russians?\u00a0 The US Constitution, Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 states in part (<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Article_Two_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Clause_1:_Command_of_military.3B_Opinions_of_cabinet_secretaries.3B_Pardons\"><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong><\/a><\/span>) &#8220;&#8230;\u00a0 and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.&#8221;\u00a0 So Trump could pardon his kids or anyone else if they are convicted of a crime but he could not pardon himself if he is impeached.\u00a0 However, were he to be impeached, he would be succeeded by VP Pence who likely would pardon him.\u00a0 This is what happened with Richard Nixon . . .
