{"id":28668,"date":"2017-07-22T10:41:30","date_gmt":"2017-07-22T17:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=28668"},"modified":"2017-07-22T10:41:30","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T17:41:30","slug":"everyday-erinyes-84","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2017\/07\/22\/everyday-erinyes-84\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyday Erinyes #84"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Experts in autocracies have pointed out that it is, unfortunately, easy to slip into normalizing the tyrant, hence it is important to hang on to outrage.\u00a0 These incidents which seem to call for the efforts of the Greek Furies (Erinyes) to come and deal with them will, I hope, help with that.\u00a0 Even though there are many more which I can&#8217;t include.\u00a0 As a reminder, though no one really knows how many there were supposed to be, the three names we have are <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone<\/strong><\/span>. These roughly translate as &#8220;unceasing,&#8221; &#8220;grudging,&#8221; and &#8220;vengeful destruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This case leaves me a little speechless, so I&#8217;ll be doing some quoting.\u00a0 &#8220;<strong>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/07\/you-cant-do-anything-i-am-the-law-ex-cop-accused-of-violently-raping-same-boy-as-his-father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania police officer<\/a> will be sentenced this week after accepting a plea deal in a child rape case \u2014 three years after his father was sentenced for abusing one of the same boys<\/strong>&#8221; <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/David-Turkos-WNEP-800x430-300x161.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/David-Turkos-WNEP-800x430-300x161.png 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/David-Turkos-WNEP-800x430-150x81.png 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/David-Turkos-WNEP-800x430-768x413.png 768w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/David-Turkos-WNEP-800x430.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That sentence (the verbal one, not the court one) is accurate, as far as it goes, but it gives the impression this &#8211; individual &#8211; was following in his father&#8217;s footsteps over time.\u00a0 From all of the dates, it appears more likely that the father and sone were sharing the boys.\u00a0 The abuse started in 2001, when one of the boys was seven.\u00a0 The perp was 28 or so and at that time a police officer in Dupont, PA.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t appear this case which terminated his employment &#8211; he started amassing his criminal record (and I assume that terminology means there was at least one convicton for something) in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>This is 2017, and the boy who was seven is noww 23 and able to stand up for himself.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The 44-year-old Turkos, a former Dupont police officer, threatened to hurt their mother and pets or take away their toys if they revealed the abuse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>One of the boys told police that Turkos choked him and used zip ties to restrain him during the abuse, and investigators said the former police officer held a hand over his mouth to muffle his screams.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI hope you die \u2014 you\u2019re a piece of crap,\u201d Turkos told one of the boys, according to police.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Is that what&#8217;s called adding insult to injury?)<\/p>\n<p>This &#8211; individual &#8211; has been allowed to plea bargain down to two misdemeanor charges, but at least each of those charges can carry up to five years in prison.\u00a0 (The father of this &#8211; individual &#8211; was sentenced to between three months and five years in state prison, BTW.)\u00a0 It appears hat he has been skating with minimumm penalties, deferred penalties, and victim blaming for a good long time.\u00a0 He strikes me as one of those who needs to be locked up permanently, and if he becomes a human being, to make a new life in prison.\u00a0 But that is not going to happen with the current charges.\u00a0 In fact, he is currently out on $50,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p>But enough about the done deal.\u00a0 This case, ladies and gentlemen, is why there should never be a statute of limitations on rape, any rape, but especially child rape.\u00a0 The Victorians had something when they referred to it as &#8220;a fate worse than death.&#8221;\u00a0 Like murder, it is life changing forever, and it is irreversible.\u00a0 And if grown women have trouble standing up to our legal system to even establish that a crime has been committed, how is a young child supposed to accomplish that?\u00a0 Andrew Vachss is amazing, but he is not omnipresent, and there are not enough of him.\u00a0 While changing rape culture seems overwhelming, changing states of limitations is something which can be worked on.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Alecto<\/span><\/strong>, maybe you would do that.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Louisiana, one Congressman put up a post (back in June) on Facebook about which there can be NO doubt that it is intended to incite violence.\u00a0 Evidently, he is still defending it, and so is Facebook.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-28674\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Clay_Higgins_Official_Portrait_jpeg.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Clay_Higgins_Official_Portrait_jpeg.jpeg 220w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Clay_Higgins_Official_Portrait_jpeg-120x150.jpeg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The free world&#8230; all of Christendom&#8230; is at war with Islamic horror. Not one penny of American treasure should be granted to any nation who harbors these heathen animals. Not a single radicalized Islamic suspect should be granted any measure of quarter. Their intended entry to the American homeland should be summarily denied. Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down. Hunt them, identify them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am working from an email here, from MoveOn, soliciting signatures on <a href=\"http:\/\/petitions.moveon.org\/sign\/zuckerberg-stop-defending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of their petitions<\/a>.\u00a0 What makes this current when it happened in June is that another elected official, this one in norther Michigan, a Village President (which I assume is like a mayor?) has gotten into the action with a post of his own, and has said he owes no one an apology for calling for the killing of &#8220;every last Muslim.&#8221;\u00a0 So I don&#8217;t have a single source.<\/p>\n<p>But MoveOn has provided links to <a href=\"https:\/\/act.moveon.org\/go\/10452?t=18&amp;akid=186222.19351232.Rndmm3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their sources<\/a>, and I&#8217;ll <a href=\"http:\/\/act.moveon.org\/go\/11161?t=20&amp;akid=186222.19351232.Rndmm3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">share those<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tisiphone<\/span><\/strong>, perhaps you might want to explain to these First Amendment idiots that, while the First Amendment doesn&#8217;t protect incitements to violence, it certainly does protect verbal responses to incitements to violence which do not incite violence themselves.<\/p>\n<p>And in Florida &#8211; do I have to say any more?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2017\/07\/florida-kids-laughed-and-joked-while-disabled-man-drowned-and-they-wont-be-punished\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Well, yes, I guess I do<\/a>.\u00a0 A video surfaced &#8211; well.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-20-at-8_25_15-PM-800x430-300x161.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-20-at-8_25_15-PM-800x430-300x161.png 300w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-20-at-8_25_15-PM-800x430-150x81.png 150w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-20-at-8_25_15-PM-800x430-768x413.png 768w, https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-20-at-8_25_15-PM-800x430.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently five kids aged 14 to 16 were in a park smoking marijuana when a disabled man walked into a retention pool and got out of his depth.\u00a0 He started struggling, and screaming for help.\u00a0 Ultimately he fell under the surface of the water, where he died.\u00a0 None of the teens called 911.\u00a0 None of the teens rushed to help.\u00a0 Instead, they laughed and joked.\u00a0 And uploaded the video.\u00a0 THEN someone called the police.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Florida doesn\u2019t have a \u201cGood Samaritan\u201d law that would both protect and demand people help when lives are threatened.
