{"id":2768,"date":"2010-09-03T01:49:01","date_gmt":"2010-09-03T08:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=2768"},"modified":"2010-09-03T01:49:01","modified_gmt":"2010-09-03T08:49:01","slug":"a-bad-day-for-arizonas-republican-racists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/09\/03\/a-bad-day-for-arizonas-republican-racists\/","title":{"rendered":"A Bad Day for Arizona&rsquo;s Republican Racists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Two of Arizona\u2019s most prominent bigots did not fare well yesterday.&#160; DOJ sued Joe Arpaio over civil rights abuses and Jan Brewer made a complete fool of herself.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Once, thirty years ago, I spent a weekend in the Maricopa County Jail.&#160; I was picked up on a Friday night on a random stop and released on Monday morning when I went to court and proved that I really had paid the speeding ticket they said was delinquent.&#160; While I was there I witnesses extreme racism against Latinos.&#160; Guards called them every derogatory name I have ever heard and beat one man brutally for throwing up.&#160; I hear things are even worse since Crazy Joe took over.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/3arpaio.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 2px 10px 5px 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"3arpaio\" border=\"0\" alt=\"3arpaio\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/3arpaio_thumb.jpg\" width=\"283\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a> The Justice Department filed a lawsuit on Thursday against Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County for not cooperating with an investigation into whether his department was <strong>systematically violating the rights of Hispanics<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Obama administration officials called the suit the first time in 30 years that the federal government had to sue to compel a law enforcement agency to cooperate with an investigation concerning Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe actions of the sheriff\u2019s office are unprecedented,\u201d Thomas E.
