{"id":24085,"date":"2016-10-05T13:22:40","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T20:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=24085"},"modified":"2016-10-05T13:22:40","modified_gmt":"2016-10-05T20:22:40","slug":"duck-and-cover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2016\/10\/05\/duck-and-cover\/","title":{"rendered":"Duck and Cover!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">When I was a child, we all knew that, in the event of a nuclear attack, we were to duck and cover!&#160; We practiced crawling under our desks, curling unto a ball, and covering our heads.&#160; Now had there been an actual nuclear blast, the only good that might have done was to spread the ashes a bit more evenly.&#160; That defense did Mike Pence even less good, when he used it against Tim Kaine&#8217;s onslaught of facts against both Pence and Trump.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"1005vp\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"1005vp\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/1005vp.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"476\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mike Pence defended Donald J. Trump by scarcely defending him at all.<\/p>\n<p>For 90 minutes on Tuesday night, Mr. Pence, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, was asked, over and over, to carry out perhaps the most unenviable, thankless and futile task in American politics: answering for Mr. Trump\u2019s cruel name-calling, factual distortions and radical proposals.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he dodged, deflected and demurred \u2014 deciding, it seemed, that all of the fires that Mr. Trump has set in the past year could not be doused in a single night.<\/p>\n<p>When his Democratic rival, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, delivered a scorching rebuke of Mr. Trump\u2019s affection for autocrats like Vladimir V. Putin and Saddam Hussein, both of whom he has praised, Mr. Pence, the governor of Indiana, looked over, weighed the message and promptly changed the subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you work on that one a long time?\u201d Mr. Pence mischievously asked his rival. \u201cBecause that had a lot of really creative lines in it.\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">From &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/05\/us\/politics\/mike-pence-donald-trump-tim-kaine.html\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a>&gt;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">He also lied without ceasing.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Here are three short clips from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\" target=\"_blank\">Rachel Maddow Show<\/a>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">In the first, Republican strategist Steve Schmidt projects Hillary&#8217;s future tactics.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_11maniac_161004\" width=\"635\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The Republican is right. That&#8217;s what I think Hillary will do, and she will be right to do so.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">In the second, Joy Reid critiques the way Kaine went after Pence.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" height=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/player.theplatform.com\/p\/7wvmTC\/MSNBCEmbeddedOffSite?guid=n_maddow_11joy_161004\" width=\"635\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">I disagree with Joy.
