He so honored for his intent to hand US National Security to Vladimir Putin (R-RU).<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"0816Manafart\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: left; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"0816Manafart\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/0816Manafart.jpg\" width=\"360\" align=\"left\" height=\"360\" \/>The Trump campaign was on the defensive on Monday after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/08\/15\/us\/politics\/paul-manafort-ukraine-donald-trump.html\">a New York Times report<\/a> revealed that its chairman, <strong>Paul Manafort, was designated to receive $12.7 million in undisclosed and potentially illegal cash payments from a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation preceded a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/08\/16\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-terrorism.html\" target=\"_blank\">high-profile national security speech<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2016\/us\/elections\/donald-trump-on-the-issues.html?inline=nyt-per\" target=\"_blank\">Donald J. Trump<\/a> on Monday afternoon in Ohio, and threatened to derail the Republican presidential nominee\u2019s latest effort to avoid distractions and stick to policy as he tried to stop his poll numbers from sliding.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Mr. Manafort denied wrongdoing and said The Times was ignoring the facts to fulfill a political agenda against Mr. Trump. He denied ever receiving an \u201coff-the-books cash payment\u201d or having worked for the Ukrainian or Russian governments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suggestion that I accepted cash payments is unfounded, silly and nonsensical,\u201d Mr. Manafort said. He said that any payments he received were for a broader political campaign team that included local and international staff, polling and research.<\/p>\n<p>The secret ledgers kept by a pro-Russian political group in Ukraine, the Party of Regions, contain 22 separate references of cash disbursements designated for Mr. Manafort between 2007 and 2012.
