Eric Cantor (R-VA) has been one of the Recovery Act\u2019s most vocal critics. After whipping his caucus into uniformly opposing the stimulus, Cantor has been the lead spokesman decrying the program as a failure. Ignoring evidence that that the stimulus is helping to turn around the economy, Cantor repeatedly says that it is \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.starexponent.com\/cse\/news\/state_regional\/article\/cantor_to_host_job_fair_blasts_stimulus\/41351\/\" target=\"_blank\">failing<\/a>\u201d to \u201ccreate jobs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">As ThinkProgress reported last year, despite his withering attacks on the stimulus, Cantor hosted <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2009\/11\/25\/cantor-second-job-fair\/\" target=\"_blank\">two<\/a> job fairs filled with employers hiring directly because of stimulus grants and programs. Tomorrow, Cantor intends to again host a <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.timesdispatch.com\/news\/virginia-politics\/2010\/jul\/07\/cantor-hold-job-fair-henrico-county-ar-266518\/\" target=\"_blank\">job fair<\/a> stimulated by jobs made possible through the Recovery Act:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer AT&amp;T has received <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recovery.gov\/Transparency\/RecipientReportedData\/pages\/RecipientProjectSummary508.aspx?AwardIdSur=77974&amp;AwardType=Contracts\" target=\"_blank\">two<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recovery.gov\/Transparency\/RecipientReportedData\/pages\/RecipientProjectSummary508.aspx?AwardIdSur=51832&amp;AwardType=Contracts\" target=\"_blank\">contracts<\/a> totaling <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$837,550<\/span> from the Recovery Act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer Bryant &amp; Stratton College received contracts totaling <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$209,571<\/span> from the Recovery Act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer Chesterfield County received grants totaling <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$406,773<\/span> from the Recovery Act. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer CSX Transportation received grants totaling over <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$5.7 million<\/span> from the Recovery Act. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer Goodwill Industries International has received grants of over <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$6.4 million<\/span> from the Recovery Act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer Northrop Grumman Corporation has received grants of over <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$2.6 million<\/span> from the Recovery Act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer University of Richmond has received grants totaling <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$750,964<\/span> from the Recovery Act. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer Nationwide Insurance has received grants totaling <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$25,617<\/span> from the Recovery Act. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">\u2013 Cantor job fair employer United Way of Greater Richmond has received a <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$61,125<\/span> grant from the Recovery Act. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">According to a ThinkProgress review of contracts from the Recovery.gov website, employers at the Cantor job fair tomorrow have received approximately $52,716,129 from the stimulus. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11pt\">While Cantor has tried to score political points slamming the stimulus as an utter failure, he has relied on it as a crutch to bring both private and public sector jobs to his district\u2026 [<em>emphasis original<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/07\/12\/jobfair-cantor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Think Progress<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">We still have a long way to go with an average of over twenty applicants for every job opening.&#160; The only reason that the stimulus isn\u2019t doing better is that Republicans watered it down.&#160; Nevertheless, we are far better off than we were when Obama took office and even farther better off than we would be without the stimulus.&#160; And what are Republicans offering as an alternative?&#160; Tax cuts for the rich, of course..<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans in Congress opposed Obama\u2019s stimulus package at every turn, voted against it almost unanimously, and have continually claim it\u2019s a failure.&#160; Why then are they so quick to take credit for the jobs it is creating?
