{"id":22025,"date":"2016-05-24T14:06:41","date_gmt":"2016-05-24T21:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=22025"},"modified":"2016-05-24T14:06:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-24T21:06:41","slug":"oliver-on-primaries-and-caucuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2016\/05\/24\/oliver-on-primaries-and-caucuses\/","title":{"rendered":"Oliver on Primaries and Caucuses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The 2016 primary season is almost over, and looking back, <\/font><font color=\"#0000ff\">my most honest reaction is to scratch my head and say &#8216;WTF?!!?&#8217;.&#160; When it&#8217;s over, both parties will have chosen the worst presidential nominees in my lifetime.&#160; That said, the presumed Republican nominee is so much worse than the Democratic, that electing her is imperative for the survival of this nation, and perhaps this earth.&#160; John Oliver satirizes ten ways in which the system is broken.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Oliver\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Oliver\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Oliver-1.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Presidential primaries and caucuses are, according to comedian and explainer John Oliver, \u201cthe electoral foreplay that we\u2019ve been engaging in since February which will culminate in the mass ball ejaculations of this summer\u2019s convention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He does have a way with words.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Both parties nearly have their nominee and it looks like the two parties will be choosing between Donald Trump, America\u2019s walking, talking brushfire and Hillary Clinton \u2014 the woman who exhibits either too much or too little of every human quality depending on who you ask,&quot; Oliver stated. But there&#8217;s still a lot that can be improved in our primary and caucus processes.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver explained in one of his more brilliant and clearminded rants:<\/p>\n<p>1. It\u2019s possible for winners to take fewer delegates.<\/p>\n<p>In the Wyoming Democratic Caucus Bernie Sanders won Wyoming but took only 7 delegates to Clinton\u2019s 11. And in Louisiana, when Trump beat Cruz by 3%, \u201che was upset to find out that Cruz could potentially get as many as 10 more delegates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have voting booths for the same reason that Friendly\u2019s has restaurant booth &#8211; so that we can have relative privacy while we choose from a deeply unappetizing menu,&quot; Oliver said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>From &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alternet.org\/election-2016\/10-reasons-why-our-system-deeply-broken-according-john-oliver\" target=\"_blank\">Alternet<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">That&#8217;s the first of ten.
